One of Project Freelancer's valuable personnel sat silently across from the Counselor and a psychiatrist.
"... If I may, Agent-" the Counselor offered to begin.
"You may not...!" the agent across from them snapped.
"Very well... but you do realize that it is difficult for us to understand exactly what happened if you do not elaborate on the details within your reports, do you not?"
"Yes, Counselor, I'm aware." Vermont sighed.
"Well, when you are ready, I am prepared to listen."
"This is stupid," New Hampshire chuckled off-handedly. "I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO EXPLAIN S**T ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED!!!"
"Agent New Hampshire," the psychiatrist attempted to calm him.
"I WILL NOT CALM DOWN!!!" Rhode Island snapped. "I WILL RAISE HELL AND BREAK S**T!!!" despite the outburst, the agent did sit back down. "Because you and I both know damn well that this is bulls**t!"
"Then I invite you to elaborate."
"Some little f***in weasel conveniently couldn't see what actually happened and we could be on the line for treason," New Mexico shook his head.
"It's easy to be calm when you're not in the hot seat, Counselor," Maryland chided. "There's no consequences for you if this isn't explained right."
"Then, explain," he urged them. "Please."
"Look, Counselor," York started. "The whole situation's f***ed. Maybe he panicked, maybe he's got somethin out for em, but I'm telling you, Colorado got it wrong."
___4 Days Earlier___
"Are you dense?!" Four Seven Niner shouted at a trooper, who briefly looked up from pushing a box and began to speak until the pilot cut him off. "Shut up! Get that box outta here! We're supposed to pack light!" Courtesy of being early, Vermont had the privilege of witnessing both the exchange and the rare instance of Niner being outside of an aircraft.
"Have you tried being nicer to them?" she asked from behind, making the aviator jump.
"S**T!!!" she shouted, almost making the agent jump herself. Niner pushed her back and said, "What's the big idea?! Trying to kill me before the Op?! The hell are you early for anyway?"
"I got done packing," Vermont shrugged innocently.
Four Seven Niner groaned and said, "Do that again, and I'll jettison you when I find the button on that thing." The two turned to the Phantom dropship in the hangar and stared in silence. "I really don't wanna..." she heard her whisper. Me neither.
"I kinda do," New Hampshire's voice resonated between them. Niner cursed once again and jumped back and Vermont instinctively flung an elbow into his gut and tried to fling him over her shoulder. That is until she remembered the amount of mass she had to move, the result being what must've looked like an incredibly awkward and poorly executed piggyback ride.
"That's it!" their pilot threw up her arms and stormed towards the dropship. "Your a*s is getting jettisoned! I'm going to find that button!"
"Oh, come on," New Hampshire protested from Vermont's back, raising his free arm. When the pilot didn't stop, Vermont felt him tap her shoulder and ask, "Hey, you think you could, uh...?"
"Yah," she strained then straightened herself and set down the sturdy agent with a sigh. Vermont stretched her back with a groan and nodded at New Hampshire's belt, asking, "Just a Mauler and a Mag?"
