"Good morning, Sammi. Would you like some breakast?" a kind voice said. I sat up and rubbed my eyes, trying to remember where I was.

"I'm Kira's mother," the woman said as if she knew I was confused. She was a short woman with firey red hair like Kira's. Her eyes were a shade darker than Kira's and her smile was much brighter.

I put my feet on the floor and said, "I'll get some myself, but thank you," I said. She nodded and left the room.

I looked around at the small room I had slept in. The walls were painted a beige color and the floor my feet were under creaked. Sunlight streamed through the small window and covered the room with an orange-y yellow glow.

I stood and walked out of the room and down a case of wooden stairs. Lukas, Kira, and Kira's mother were in a small kitchen,  making themselves breakfast. I walked into the kitchen and Lukas greeted me with a smile. Kira continued to chop up tomatoes, ignoring me.

I grabbed a bowl of fruit and began to cut up some of it and scoop it into a red bowl.

"Do you need this?" Kira grunted, motioning to the bread beside me. "No," I said and continued to slice my fruit.

After I finished, I took my bowl and sat down next to Lukas on the floor in the living room. I set my bowl on a brown and black woven placemat and began to eat.

Lukas and I ate in easy silence and stood to wash our dishes. "Here, I'll get it," he said and took my bowl. I smiled and sat back down.  "Thanks," I said. When he came back, I scooted over and motioned for him to sit. He ruffled his blonde hair and sat beside me. Bleu and Cory eventually came downstairs after a few more minutes.

"We're going to the tree," Kira announced. "What tree?" Bleu scoffed. "The hanging tree," Kira said. "Fine. Let's go," Cory said and stood.

The five of us walked out and into the busy town. "Where?" Lukas asked. Kira pointed ahead to a tree on top of a hill. I inhaled sharply and walked towards the tree. I had a bad feeling about this.

A/N:
