The nightmares just continued as the months went by. Severus just couldn't sleep and it drew a silent wedge between himself and Elizabeth. Not one that could damage their relationship, but one that became an invisible wall and divider. March turned to April and April turned to May. May meant it was time for O.W.L.S. and the students to focus. This was a busy time for the professors as well, so Beth and Severus would be gone from each other for a while. Her belly had only gotten bigger and she learned to walk downstairs to the basement without Severus' assistance. She exhaled as this morning would be a long one. She had two groups split up: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. They would all be taking the same exams, but her class was big and it needed to be split up. She walked into the classroom and looked around. It had already been one school year. Amazing......it flew by so quickly. Seemed like yesterday they were making cookies and Severus got a taste of them and maybe a taste of admiration for the American woman.
She walked around and checked all of the stoves and the ingredients. They would be tested on their cooking and baking. They would have to make several items all by memory and using no notes. It was hard because they had to cook three items and bake three. A total of six items to remember and to make almost perfectly. She had to be a hard grader. O.W.L.S. was not made to be easy, and it challenged every single individual who attended Hogwarts. No matter the subject. She sighed as she held her larger belly and she felt the kicks become much more frequent. She wished Severus would accept it and be happy about it, but it was starting to sound more and more like regret and bitterness from his end. This was slightly hurting them and their communication. She was starting to see the old Severus again and they had some yelling matches every once in a while. It made her so sad knowing he was so scared of becoming a father that he would lash out at her. To become so scared and to become so angry at her and himself.....
She sat in her chair and lightly cried for a while. These had been stressful months for her and that wasn't good for the baby. She hadn't talked to anyone about what was happening with their life and relationship, because everyone knew that this was just who Severus was and she knew this wasn't true. She held her head and shook it as she was feeling very emotional and alone. She didn't know it, but the door opened and a small hand touched her shoulder. "Professor Beth?" The voice said as Beth looked up with running mascara down her face. Yui was standing there sadly and she seemed very concerned. "Oh.....I am sorry, I.....didn't know anyone would be coming for another hour." She spoke quietly as Yui gently sat in a chair in front of her beloved professor. Yui was normally happy and bubbly but today, she wore a serious face and stared at Beth very deeply.
"Professor...I just can not help but notice this over the last month, but you seem sadder. Are you okay?" She asked softly as Beth nodded gently. "It is my first pregnancy, so it has been some discomfort and some soreness to go with it." She said as Yui remained slightly unconvinced. "Professor Beth, is it Professor Snape?" She asked as Beth deeply sighed. "The Professor is......as stressed as I am about O.W.L.S. and just having a new position of being parents. It has been a ride but we will be just fine Yui. I will be fine." She held her shoulder with a soft smile. "Alright Professor, I will believe you. Please don't keep your sadness inside though. It will be very hard for you and Professor Snape to stay happy." Yui replied as Beth smiled. Yui was the best student she could ask for. She was a Ravenclaw through and through and she wanted her to be successful. She decided since Yui was here, she would talk to her for an hour. It made her feel better and she even allowed her to touch her belly. Yui giggled as the baby was kicking around. "When is the baby due?" Yui asked. "Possibly early July or late June. It is difficult to tell." Beth answered her as she looked at the time seeing that time truly had passed. Students for the morning half were coming in nervously as Beth waved to them and said good morning. "Yui......I wish you the absolute best of luck with your O.W.L.S., I do." Beth said as Yui hugged her and went to her seat. Beth looked to the door and was thinking about Severus. She sighed as if it was just going to be one of those days.
