ever since the pool day, the three of them had become really close. kianna had made friends with onyx and it was honestly one of the best things they could've done. she didn't even feel like a third wheel around them, except for when clay and onyx would start being sappy towards each other. it didn't happen all that often though, she thought they were really cute together actually.

"never did i think i'd be closer with my best friends girlfriend than i would my own best friend."

kianna was laid across onyx's lap as clay was playing minecraft with his friends. "we should honestly just date instead, screw clay. he's too busy with his loser friends." she picked at the dirty blonde boy who then turned around glaring at the two. they all bursted into a small fit of laughter before clay joined them on his bed—it's normal, not at all weird. they're just really close—and laid in onyx's lap as well.

"people probably think we're all in a relationship." clay wheezed out.

"oh they definitely do, i wouldn't blame them either. in reality i'm just the mega third wheel."

"third wheel— kianna i give you forehead kisses, is that not enough for you?"

onyx faked a dramatic sigh and acted like she was upset by kianna's words when she wasn't at all. kianna apologized and patted onyx's head. the two girls started to laugh their asses off for no particular reason. "we should go get taco bell or something, i'm hungry as hell." clay sat up and looked at the two others who also sat up as well.

clay and onyx hadn't really been as lovey dovey in the past few days which was a little weird, kianna didn't think anything of it. some couples have their days where they don't really care for physical affection so she figured that was just it. what she didn't know is that they had broken up a few days prior to them hanging out currently.

it was a mutual split and they were obviously still friends, they just agreed that they seemed better off as friends. "wait- what time is it?" onyx grabbed her phone and checked the time before mumbling 'shit' under her breath, "i gotta get going guys, i have this huge family event to go to in less than two hours." the girl hugged clay and kianna while saying her goodbyes and headed out.

once she was gone, kianna turned to clay. "are you and onyx okay?" clay nodded in response, "yeah we're good, why?" she shrugged her shoulders and laid on her stomach, "you guys just seemed...off...i don't know, probably looking too deep into it and it's not even really my business but i just wanted to make sure you guys were good n' all."

clay sighed knowing that he couldn't keep lying to kianna, "actually- we broke up a few days ago. i didn't wanna bum you out because i can tell that you were really happy i found someone." she was shocked to say the least, she wasn't quite expecting that.

"oh uhm, i'm so sorry. are you okay? i know how hard break ups can be." he nods and sends her a small reassuring smile, "yeah- yeah, everything was mutual. no hard feelings between me and her obviously." kianna gave him a small side hug for a little comfort.

"why'd you guys break up if you don't mind me asking?"

"me and her just realized we didn't want a relationship with each other."

"did you love her?"

"as a friend, yes. nothing more than that though."

"that makes sense, i don't know why i asked that after you had told me what you did. it was kinda dumb."

clay chuckled softly, "it wasn't dumb, you were just curious."

the silence between them was pretty loud until he let out a sigh and finished the conversation, "the girl i'm actually in love with doesn't notice how much i truly love her." kianna was pretty confused at that, why hadn't he said anything to her about it?

"that's surprising, you have a very obvious love language. you're very clingy and you have to spend all of your hours with them. since it's obviously not onyx, why haven't you told me about her?"

"i don't know, i'm afraid i guess?"

"well why would you be afraid- afraid that i'm gonna tease you for liking another girl, huh?" she poked at his chest with her pointer fingers which causes him to laugh.

"no of course not, just afraid of rejection."

"rejection...? why would-"

the look he was giving her was a very obvious sign...the girl was her. he was in love with her. why couldn't she have noticed that sooner? none of it made sense, none of it perfectly pieced together like it should've.
