————————kianna couldn't think straight. her thoughts were going far too fast for her to get a grasp of anything clay had just said. "clay, if you're saying what i think you are-" she stood up and took a step back from his bed. they were both somewhat panicking at that moment, "i am, i'm saying exactly that. i know it's a lot to take in, but i had to let it out at some point." she understood that, she understood exactly how he felt because she had felt that way a few years ago.
she had fallen in love with him well before he decided to just stop talking to her, that's why it's so hard to process everything he just said. tears started to blur her vision, she didn't even know she was crying until then. "this doesn't make any sense! you- you're in love with me?" clay nodded in response, slowly getting up so he could ease his way towards her.
"this is just some- some kind of sick joke!" she looked around for her things which she quickly collected. "k, i promise it's not! i'm being serious" clay tried to grab her hands so he could get it through her mind that he really did love her.
"you can't just do that!"
"what are you talking about?"
"you can't just come back into my life expecting me to immediately fall into your arms. you can't just slowly manipulate me into liking you just so you can break my heart again! i'm tired of all of these broken promises that don't mean anything to anyone!" kianna was practically sobbing all of her words out. she was so confused.
before giving him any time to react to what she had just said, she makes a run for her car. all of the thoughts had overwhelmed her and breathing had become very difficult so she started to hyperventilate. once in her car, she pulled her knees to her chest and somewhat sobbed into them since she could barely breathe.
"kianna, open the door please." clay tapped on the window but she just ignored him. his heart shattered at the state of the girl, it was all his fault too. he knew it was too early to say anything, but he did it anyway. "ki, please. i'm not letting you leave while having a panic attack, you could get seriously hurt." he continued to tap on the window knowing it would annoy kianna into opening the door.
clay immediately engulfed her in a hug, which only made her somehow cry harder. she always tried to stay upset with him but he made it impossible for her.
"listen, i'm not messing with you and i promised to never leave you again. the reason i told you how i felt was because i couldn't continue lying to you. i couldn't continue acting like i wasn't in love with you." he pulled away from the hug so he could wipe the tears from her cheeks, he hated to see her cry. it broke his heart more than she'd ever know.
kianna didn't really feel like speaking since she knew how shaky her voice would be, it was always super shaky after she had a panic attack, so she simply nodded in response. she hadn't had one in forever so she knew for a fact she'd stumble on her words.
"let's get you inside, it's a little chilly tonight." clay placed his hand against the small of her back and lead her inside and back up to his room. she sat on his bed while he sat in his desk chair just staring at her. now that she knew how he felt, it was extremely obvious how in love he was with her.
she cleared her throat a little before speaking, "i uhm...i'm in love with you too. i was for so long and you were too much of an idiot to realize that so i guess were both on the same page here. i know i acted a little dramatic there, but it just scared me. i'm afraid of something happening and then we end up not talking again."
clay understood completely where she was coming from, he didn't want to lose her either. sure he may have been the reason they stopped talking in the first place and he definitely didn't have any good reasoning behind it either, but it was the worst few years of his life and he regretted every second of it.
"wait, so you really feel the same?"
"yeah, i do, but i don't want us to rush into anything."
"no yeah i get that, i didn't except us to immediately go into a relationship together, but i want something to happen between us y'know?"
"thank god we're in the same boat with this, it makes it much easier for everything to not be rushed."
they exchange a small smile and kianna opens her arms signaling to clay that she wanted a hug. he doesn't hesitate to get up and tackle her in a giant hug. the two burst into a fit of giggles and wheezes, "i missed this. i missed you and your stupid wheeze the most though." he jokingly pushes her away from him and rolls his eyes.
"i missed you too, montgomery. more than you probably think." a small blush formed on her cheeks as she sat up to look at him. "look at you going all soft on me, the clay i know would've never said that to someone." they were finally back to normal. it was obvious that their bond wasn't something that easily broke even after years and years of no communication.
clay pulled her closer to him and wrapped his arms around her small frame, "what's funny is that onyx already knows everything, i told her the day we broke up what my plan was and she was extremely supportive of it. she even said it felt weird for me and her to date because i seem like such a brotherly figure to her." kianna smiled to herself at the fact that onyx was genuinely such an amazing person. she was glad to have made an amazing friend that would hopefully stick around.
she would make note to text her and thank her for being so supportive and kind. "we should take a nap, swimming really took a lot out of me earlier." kianna nodded in agreement and cuddle into her side. she felt at peace for once in her life knowing she had her best friend back for good.
