A/N: Sorry for the chapter delay, writers block is hitting hard. Also, sorry if this chapter is boring. This is the end of the special series, "Broken Bonds".
When Nejire first moved into her mother's house, she didn't expect her mother to try and socialize with her. After all, Nejire didn't know why her parents had split apart, it just came without any warning or indication. One day their family seemed pretty happy, and the next day her mother moves out for some reason.
When Nejire moved in with her mother and she had tried to talk to her, she was angry for a multitude of reasons. One of the reasons being that Nejire's mom hadn't bothered to tell her why she left their family. Another being the fact that if she hadn't left, the traumatizing events that had occurred between her and her father probably wouldn't have happened. Though after a while, she supposed that blaming her mother wasn't fair. There was no way she could've known something like that would happen.
Over the next few weeks, Nejire's mom would try and talk to her while Nejire would ignore her, mostly due to the fact that she wasn't yet ready to talk about it with her mother. Heck, she still had nightmares about it! After about a month of this routine, her mother would stop trying to regain the bond they once had, since it seemed like Nejire had no interest in regaining it. That wasn't the case though, Nejire definitely wanted them to reconcile, just not then, she was too confused at that time.
She was confused about the state of their 'family'. As much as she wished, it wasn't easy to disregard or forget about everything their family had done and been through together. There was no doubt that Nejire hated her father now, but she couldn't help but remember all the good times when they were once a family. Now, there weren't that many good times. Not to say that there weren't because sometimes there was, one being when Nejire had gotten into U.A, which was obviously a big achievement. So just for a day, they disregarded everything that had occurred in the last year, and they celebrated. Then, when all was said and done, they went to sleep and pretended like it didn't happen the next day.
During her first year at U.A, she mostly kept to herself. The girls in her class had attempted to bring her into their circle of friends, but she didn't budge. It wasn't until her second year when she met Mirio and Tamaki, and it took them months to get Nejire to be able to have an actual conversation. But after those months, everything was fine between them, they were talking regularly, joking with each other regularly, and had become genuine friends.
If Nejire had to be honest, it was a bit refreshing finding friends again. She did admit that if she tried a bit earlier, she could've already had friends. But Mirio and Tamaki were persistent. They didn't give up, well Mirio didn't give up, Tamaki just stood there awkwardly most of the time. Nejire didn't blame him though, since he was as shy as she was. Things only got better from there, Nejire had two friends she could rely on, which meant she no longer felt alone at U.A.
A year later, she met Izuku.Nejire didn't know how to define her relationship with Izuku. They were friends, at least that what she thinks. It hadn't been more than 1 month since they met. She herself didn't know why the two became friends as quickly as they did. She could say it was because of her curiosity, but her curiosity seemed to have led her to troublesome situtions.
Like that whole relationship scandal (if you could call it that). Her cheeks flared up just thinking about the whole situation. If she hadn't hugged him, none of that would've happened. Nejire had just barely become friends with Izuku, there was no way she was ready for a relationship with him, she wasn't even sure if she felt that way towards him, it was a hard feeling to pinpoint, since she hadn't felt that way before. Nonetheless, she was happy that they were friends.
Meeting and becoming friends with Izuku wasn't the only good thing to happen in her third year though, as Nejire and her mother had finally started to patch up their mother-daughter relationship. They would now occasionally talk to the other throughout the day, which was a huge step considering 2 years ago, it was natural for them to go weeks without saying a word to the other. She still hadn't told her about the incident, but they were a step closer to that.

Nanako used to love her husband, but now she just didn't know what to feel. When Nejire had moved in with her, she knew something had happened between Nejire and her father, but no matter how much she asked or prodded, Nejire never told her anything about it. Not that they talked much anyway. The two used to be more open with each other, and Nejire would often confide in her, but now all of that was out of the window.
She often lie awake at night, wondering what happened, wondering what went wrong, wondering if there was anything she could do to prevent this from happening. Blaming herself had been something she was doing more frequently when it wasn't her fault in the slightest. Well, one thing was her fault. Moving out without Nejire. She thought that moving out would cause her husband to realize that what he was doing was wrong, but it only did the opposite.
Looking back on it, Nanako probably should've just left with Nejire, since living with a drug abuser wasn't healthy for a kid that was her age. Nejire shouldn't have had to experience a split in her family at such a young age, only being 15 at the time. But things were starting to look bright for her daughter.
As far as she knew, her daughter had made friends with a green-haired boy from her class, she started to come home in better moods once that happened. And when Nejire was in a happy mood, it was easier to get her to talk. The few times Nanako had gotten results from this were when she would ask Nejire very simple questions like "How was your day?" or "Did anything happen at school today?" It wasn't much but it was a start.
The questions began getting more frequent, and sometimes Nejire would ask questions of her own. The new Hado family was starting to turn over a new leaf. It had given Nanako hope.
Hope that they would one day be able to heal their Broken Bonds.
