2. First Night

"Hey, Love, we landed safely and are now on our way to the hotel. Just wanted to let you know. We'll call you as soon as we're there. Love, Scott and Mitch Xx."

Avi smiled when he read the message. He himself had just gotten home from the studio and was just stowing away the things he bought at the store on his way back home. He would be home alone for a full month with his men being on tour in Europe with Superfruit. It was something he was used to and still, he didn't like being alone in the huge house.

Since he knew from his own experience that the first night was always the worst, he decided to make the evening as normal as possible with cooking himself a nice meal and spending some time in his reading chair with a good book, some wine and music. But before did anything else, he replied to his husbands' text.

"Wonderful. I just got home from the studio and am looking forward to a nice evening at home. Just Felix and I. And you, whenever you decide to call me. I love you."

Once he had put down his phone, he went to his bedroom to get changed into some comfortable clothes. When he came back downstairs, he saw the grey and black tabby cat sitting at the bottom of the staircase.

"There you are. Hello, Felix" Avi greeted the cat and squatted down to softly pet his soft fur. "It's so good to see you again. It will be only the two us for the next weeks. I hope you don't mind, hmm?"

Felix mewled softly and Avi took him onto his arm. "Of course, little one. You must be hungry after being alone the whole day, hmm? What did you get up to? Did you catch some mice, hmm?"

The cat enjoyed being carried and pampered by the bearded man and showed it by bumping his head against Avi's chin while he was purring.

"I know, Sweetheart. Come on, let's see what's on the menu today, hmm?" While he was still holding the cat with one hand, he opened the drawer where they kept the cat food. He proceeded to hold different cans and bags of food up and read their label. "So we have tuna, tuna with anchovies, beef and chicken with carrots..." He knew that Felix didn't mind what he got, but it was their little ritual. "Tuna and chicken? Yes, that would be my first choice as well" he concluded and opened the can.

Usually, when they were alone, his husbands would be reacting to this scene, Scott would just smile fondly and Mitch would roll his eyes playfully and say something about how crazy he was to treat Felix like this.

But they weren't at home. Avi was alone with Felix, but for the time being, he didn't mind. He put the bowl down and let Felix jump down. Then he started to prepare his own dinner, salad with steak and roasted potatoes. While the potatoes were in the oven, he prepared the salad and steak.

Once his meal was finished, he sat down with it in the dining room and chuckled when Felix followed him. "You just had your dinner" he said softly. "This is my dinner, hmm?"

But Felix just looked at him and miaowed softly.

"I know, you're such a hungry cat" Avi agreed and tried the steak. "You want some too, hmm?" The bearded man cut off another piece and offered it to the cat, who took it carefully. Avi chuckled softly. "Of course" he said and continued to eat his dinner, not without sharing a huge chunk of his steak with his cat.

When he was almost finished, he heard his phone. It was Mitch.

"Hi, Love" Avi greeted and waved into the camera. "How are you?"

Mitch smiled. "We're fine. Scott is in the bathroom, but he'll be back any minute" he explained. "How are you?"

"We're fine. I just had some dinner and I am planning to do a bit of reading later" Avi explained.

"What did you have?" Mitch asked. "I am not asking because I am hungry and waiting for Scott to order room service."

Avi chuckled. "Well I had salad, roasted potatoes and half a steak."

Mitch raised an eyebrow. "Half a steak?"

Avi nodded. "Yes. Guess who had the rest?" He bent down and picked up Felix, who was still sitting next to him, probably waiting for more treats.

Mitch chuckled. "Of course you're spoiling the little devil."

"Don't call him devil! He has feelings, too" Avi said and kissed the top of Felix's head, letting him jump down as soon as he started to struggle.

"Whatever" Mitch said and then turned around. "Wait, there is Scott."

Avi smiled when the picture shook a moment and then there was Scott, beaming into the camera. "Hi, Love. How are you, how is the little kitty cat?"

They talked for a while, while Avi did the dishes and then snuggled up on the sofa and Scott and Mitch had their lunch.

"So" Scott began as they were getting ready to say goodbye. "Are you going to be okay tonight? You always had a hard time being home alone..."

Avi nodded. "I will be. No running away to Visalia or to Kevin this time. After all, I am not alone, Felix and I will be a good team."

"Okay. If anything is up do not hesitate to call us, okay?" Scott said.

"Yes" Avi said with a soft smile on his face. He remembered being alone in the house for the first time. The empty and quiet house together with a thunderstorm had caused him to have a rough night full of nightmares. The following times his men were away, Avi had either visited his family or stayed with friends. But this time he was set on staying home alone. He could do this. "I'll call when I need you. But I'll be fine this time. Don't worry about me. You enjoy your day off, hmm?"

"We'll probably sleep for the afternoon and might go out tonight," Mitch said and stifled a yawn. "Anyway... good night to you."

Avi smiled. "Sleep tight."

After putting down the phone, Avi prepared a cup of tea for himself and then sat down with his book and Felix in his lap. He read for some time until he got tired and decided to go to bed. Before he went upstairs, he checked the doors and windows to make sure that everything was fine.

After getting ready for bed, he laid down. Felix was nowhere to be seen, but that wasn't unusual, he liked to roam the house for a while.

Before turning off the lights, the bearded man sent a quick message to his men. Then he turned on some soft and relaxing music and closed his eyes. Avi was drifting off when he suddenly heard a loud noise that made him sit up straight immediately. He turned on the light and slowly backed out of the room. He turned on the lights and then screamed.

"Jesus, Felix! What happened?"

The cat just looked at him and mewled.

"Yeah, I know. What did you do?" Avi picked up the cat and held it close, trying to calm down himself. Only when he felt calm again, he went downstairs to check what had happened. And when he saw the shattered vase on the floor of the living room, he couldn't help but laugh. "Seriously, Felix?" He sighed. "We'll clean this up and then you'll come to bed with me, hmm?"

Half an hour later, the bearded man was lying in bed with Felix right next to him. Avi had one hand in the soft fur and was listening to his soft purr, which lulled him in and made him fall into a deep slumber.
