Surprise surprise (yet again)!

POV: Jaden Davis
"So what exactly are you doing?"
"Well, I'm just taking her to this small place..."
"Oh. Well, best of luck."
"You seem more anxious about this than I do," I grin at her.
She flashes a small smile at me, "Well, Aubrey isn't really oriented to this kind of thing. It might just be a huge task to accomplish."
"Yeah, I know she isn't, and she also has no spine at all. But she's cool, goes with the game most of the time, and you know, there's probably a sixty percent chance she wasn't going to tell me what we think she was going to tell me, so really, you've got nothing to worry about."
I can't say it doesn't feel a tad weird, talking to her mom about this. Like "Excuse me ma'am, but I think your daughter needs to declare her undying affection for me, and will only do so if taken to a faraway place so that her highness isn't interrupted by babies and annoying best friends time and again". The things I do for this girl, really.
"Well, okay, just make sure she doesn't pass out or anything..."
"What do you take your daughter for?"
She lets out a small chuckle, "Okay, she isn't going to pass out, she isn't a prude or anything, but this is just so exciting!"
"I should be really uncomfortable talking to you about this, but I'm not really uncomfortable, just a little bit."
"That's because I have a talent for making people feel at ease."
"I think it's just because I've known you for a while. Where is Aubrey, anyway?"
"AUBREY HOW MUCH LONGER ARE YOU GONNA TAKE?!"
"ONE MINUTE, JESUS!"
"One minute, Jaden. Just one more minute."
"I live with two full grown women, Mrs. Jensen. What makes you think I believe that?"
She sighs, "Why don't you just go on upstairs, then?"
I color a little, I don't even know why, "But...she could be changing or something!"
"Knock, my dear. Knock."
"What if she asks who it is?"
"Say it's me. Modulate your voice."
"But - "
"Jaden, stop complaining and just go upstairs."
"Jeez you're like my mother," I walk to the stairs.
"We wouldn't want that, now, would we?" she winks. I roll my eyes at her. Mothers these days.
"Forget I said anything. Please."
I can feel her grinning behind me.
You know how they say light travels faster than sound? Yeah that's complete bullshit.
Because when I knock once and open the door to her bedroom, I don't see anything before I hear something. Something along the lines of, "AAHHHHHH! DON'T COME IN!" Then of course I do the sensible thing and immediately run out of the room because she tells me to. Not. I cover my face with my hands and just stand there, my eyes squished shut by the balls of my palms, my head bowed low despite the squished eyes.
