I started walking faster between the crowds as Hyunsuk followed behind giggling, unlike usual. I didn't like this feeling. My heartbeats were quickening, they made me feel tingly and dizzy, I didn't love the way I felt at all.
I noticed that through my steps I was in the middle of the shopping area, standing alone all lost among many crowds. I looked around as my eyes darted around, not knowing what to do but trying to forget about what just happened.
"You want another cup of coffee?" Hyunsuk asked making me startled. He wasn't there, just few seconds ago he was behind.....I didn't feel him behind me.
"No....lets just go back home." I said. I was about to turn back when a small hand warped around mine. I glanced quickly at a little kid holding my hand. "There are another couple here! The number of participants is fine now!" The kid cried as he tried to push me somewhere.
I looked in front of me to see a small wooden stage, a small yard and seats on the side where few people sat down. There were two pairs together everywhere, I knew what this led to.
"I am sorry but you must have misunderstood things....I...I am not dating him." I said. I glanced at Hyunsuk who remained silent avoiding my gaze. "But you still can participate! Most of the couples here are friends, some are real." The kid said as he winked at me. "But I don't want to." Never will I be a 'couple' with anyone other than her.
"Wait.....so does that mean you are not participating?" The kid asked through shaky voice and I nodded my head. "Even if the prize for winning was brand new farming tools? A whole kit?"
It was only for a moment, but I swear I saw Hyunsuk's eyes sparkling. They went wide for a second but then he hid them well. I removed the kids hand and walked over to Hyunsuk, he only glanced at me waiting for me to speak.
"Do you want to join that race?" I asked as I crossed my hands, I feel like my tone was an insulting one. Hyunsuk glanced at the yard, at me, then at the ground. "N-No...that's stupid...I mean we are not even c-" "We will join your stupid race or whatever." I said. "But your should-" "No buts! We are in!" I said and the kid smiled and thanked me before he ran off to the manager and Hyunsuk's eyes widened as he stared at me with shock.
"I told you I don't want to join this stupid race!" Hyunsuk cried. "But I want to, let's go and get ready." I said. It was for a while, but he chuckled as he followed me.
We stood in row as other couples were there too. Someone tied a rope around both our left and right legs. It was the three feet match.
Everyone else was there giggling, whispering, and blushing while Hyunsuk only focused on the end line from afar, he desperately wanted to win.
Something inside of me felt a bit sad, although I was happy to participate with him, the fact that we can't be like other couples....wait! What the hell was I thinking??
I shook my head as I slapped my checks to stop such thoughts.
A man in a black suit walked in front of us in that moment, probably the judge. He explained the rules to us, simple. Everyone got ready in their places, holding hands together, except for me and Hyunsuk.
The judge pressed his gun and we heard the shooting, then right away everyone started running. I rushed as fast as I can as Hyunsuk started running very fast, he wasn't tall but he was very freaking fast.
I struggled as there was nothing to support me, nothing I can hold to and balance myself with, not to mention the pain dancing in my shoulder. My legs got tangled more and more as Hyunsuk was forcefully pulling me behind him. I couldn't help it and ended up tripping pulling Hyunsuk down with me, with him on top of me.
