"it's not that easy, we will never be what we use to"

Justin's POV

We were walking in silence, but not an awkward silence, a comfortable silence. Emma needed a day like today. She needs more days like this. I'm just grateful that she actually let me take her out, I thought she wouldn't want anything to do with me ever again, but Emma always has said, she's not like most girls.

"Are you playing basketball here too?" she asked, breaking the silence.

"Yeah I am, the coach offered me the scholarship again and I took it." I said glancing at her. She looked beautiful. Her dark brown hair was blowing in the wind as we walked, the sun reflection from the water made her blue eyes pop, her face had more color to it than usual and she just looked flawless.

"That's good" she nodded.

"How about you, how are your classes?" I asked.

"Fine, boring and tedious, but fine" she said giving a small smile.

"What are you taking?" I asked.

"Uhmm, Drawing, Law, American Literature, Statistics, and that's it I think." she said looking at the lake.

"What about you?" she asked.

"Writing, Statistics, Psychics and another writing/reading course that I don't remember the name of." I said giggling, earning a soft giggle from her too.

"Do you know what your Statistics teachers name is?" she asked.

"Uhmm, I think it's Mr.Brown" I said, thinking back to the schedule I was given.

"Looks like your stuck with me in that one" she said. Yes! We have a class together. And it just so happens to be a math class. How ironic right?

"No way, that's awesome" I said. She nodded and smiled. I started walking towards the lake and she followed me, probably confused at what I was doing. I sat down right at the edge of the lake. Emma stood next to me and I looked up at her,

"Sit down, it's just rocks" I said. We were sitting on little pebbles and rocks and I was picking them up and throwing them into the water.

"Your such a kid" she said finally sitting down next to me. She picked up a handful or little rocks and threw them out into the lake and giggled.

"And I'm the kid" I joked with her. She laughed a little and continued to throw rocks. It was silent again, the only sound of the wind through the trees and the water splashing sounds from the rocks we were throwing in. I looked over at Emma and she had her knees pulling into her chest and her head rested on them. She looked happy, happier than she has been since I've been back.

"How did you find this place?" she asked. I shrugged,

"I don't know, I was just aimlessly driving." I said.

"It's beautiful." she said looking out into the lake.

"I know" I said without taking my eyes off of her. I looked out at the lake just as she was doing. I scooted a little closer to her and I wrapped my arm around her shoulders, not wanting to push her into anything too fast. She looked up at me and I smiled down at her. She very slightly smiled and leaned into my chest, resting her head on my shoulder and reached her hand up and intertwined our fingers. It felt good to hold Emma's hand again. It felt good to just have her sitting next to me.

"I miss this. Us." I said, just above a whisper.

"Me too" she said quietly.

"Do you think we can ever go back to what we use to be" I asked. She replied after a minute,
