Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, the precious rulers of Equestria. Perfect examples. Royalty. Alicorns. Millions obey them-- unknowing of the dark secret huddled in their past. So what if you were told that Luna turned into Nightmare Moon unwillingly? What if you were told Celestia was to blame? What if you were told it was Celestia who made a deal with the very thing that killed their parents? When Nightmare Moon surfaced, Celestia sent Luna to the moon. Now Luna's stars must free her by the longest day of her thousandth year, or chaos will strike everything they've ever known. Cover by me, don't steal. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic belongs to Hasbro and Lauren Faust.

The following was a submission I put into a local writing competition where I was tasked with somehow retelling a classic myth or story under 1000 words. To do this I chose to retell the myth of Tantalus from Ancient Greece in a Wild West setting. Which explains why the ending seems a little... undercooked hehe.

"Ever played dominoes? Personally I'm no good at it. I have no patience whatsoever. But let's say you set up like fifty dominoes. If someone came along after you'd knocked them all over, they probably wouldn't be able to see the first domino if they were standing near the last domino. They'd have to backtrack to find the domino that started it all. The one that began the chain reaction. It happens in life just like that. One day, you'll find yourself somewhere looking down at a pile of knocked over dominoes. And you have to backtrack in your mind to find that first domino-that first moment that changed everything. You didn't know that day would change your life at the time-it might've seemed completely normal. But looking back on it, it's unmistakable. Looking back on my life so far, I can safely say that September 9th was my first domino."

We all grew up with stories told by the people around us. Parents, siblings, friends, teachers, neighbors. Fairytales about girls with red hoods traveling to her grandmother's house, a boy who can fly and takes kids to a magical land to fight pirates, a tale of magic beans that sprout high into the sky where the giants reside. But those are common, modern stories designed to put little kids to sleep. How many people know the stories of old? Or should I say; how many people THINK they know the stories of old? Stories are a way to pass down lessons, ideas, feelings to younger generations, but over time they're bound to get jumbled and muddled. Why are we so certain we know these stories? After all, there can be several versions of the same tale due to translation issues alone. But when you add centuries to mistranslations and going from one person to the next, you have to wonder how distorted the tales of old we hear truly are. And we have to wonder: what is the true story among the false one?

Imagine how you would feel to be eternally hungry and thirsty. Only to make things worse a delicate fruit tree dangles fresh, juicy fruit just out of reach and you stand upon an island just big enough for you to fit that is surrounded by the clearest freshest water imaginable. Yet, of course you are in Hades and boy the Gods of Olympus can hold a grudge for all of eternity and therefore you are stuck here on this wretched tiny island unable to eat, drink or touch the tantalising surroundings for you guessed it all of eternity. Quite the rude gesture considering that all I had tried to do was make them a sacrifice that I had deemed fit. Well I guess it wasn’t a proper gesture now that I think back upon it, but they have to take some of the blame. Oh, you must all be very, very confused and I wouldn’t doubt the fact that you think I am a psychopath sitting, or should I say standing here talking to apparently no one about what my life has come to. If you can even consider my life as it is a life. Ha, if any of you even believed that that was what I did all day down here in Hades was wallow in my own misery you are all very, very wrong. I’m planning my revenge against the wretched people whom I may have at one point many centuries ago considered my friends. Had they not been such ungrateful, arrogant, yet very powerful people perhaps this tale would be different, although I have my doubts. Point being unless they’ve changed in the few centuries in which I was stuck in this disgusting filth of a place I doubt that they’re any less arrogant and self-centered and still living life like they own the place and not caring what others think. Seeing as how I seem to have gotten my ranting out of the way perhaps it’s time to welcome you all as I tell you the tale of how I plan to bring down the unworthy rulers of this world. Perhaps, the next time I see this place it will be to laugh at them while they sit here in my place drowning in their own misery as I was.
