Darcey brought her dinner out on the table. There were plates filled with potatoes, steak, corn, green beans, and rolls. We haven't used these plates since my grandma died, I wondered what on Earth reminded Darcey we even had them. But all the same it looked delicious, and I could tell by the look on Niall's face he thought so too.

Niall and I found a spot at the table and waited for Darcey and Aaron. When they got in the room we said grace and began eating.

I chuckled at Niall's uncomfortable face as he ate quietly. Darcey nudged Aaron to talk to us. I didn't even know why he was here, but he has been spending a lot more time here than usual. I guess it was fine with me as long as she was happy but he was trying to get to know me.

And I didn't want to get to know him.

Aaron cleared his throat and set his silverware down. "So, who is your friend Katie?"

I was surprised he didn't acknowledge him until now, it actually bothered me. "Niall." I said simply, catching the smile he was giving me. I smiled back.

"Are you guys dating?" Niall about choked on his milk. "No?"

"No Aaron." I laughed, joining in with Niall.

"Sorry, I just assumed."

"Nope," I shook my head. "But Niall, this is my mom's boyfriend Aaron." I introduced them.

He smiled, "So what's your last name kid?"

Niall shifted uncomfortably in his seat, "Horan, uhm sir."

"Huh," Aaron rubbed his scruffy chin as if he was thinking. "Niall Horan, that sounds real familiar..."

Niall stiffened in his spot, "You probably know my mom, it's a small town." He laughed awkwardly.

We finished our dinner and started on our desert. "Her pie is the best." I whispered to Niall.

"I'll be the judge of that." He winked before they came back with our plates filled with pie.

"So, what's going on Darce? We never eat at the table." I noticed. The two of us always sat on the floor and ate over the coffee table in the living room. Over all I loved it here. I mean at my house I was always alone and when I wasn't it was never just my mom and I. I never got to be alone with her. I know they loved me but I feel more important here when it's just me and her.

"Well actually, We have something to tell you." Darcey said excitedly. Aaron rested his hand over hers and squeezed it gently. "And Katie, I need you to be open minded about it."

"W- what is it? Are you okay?" I asked.

She laughed, "I am fine sweet heart, better than fine." She looked to Aaron and nodded encouragingly.

"I have asked your aunt to marry me, and she said yes." Aaron blurted out like he was afraid of my reply.

It felt like my heart dropped to my feet. I was completely dumbstruck until I put it all together. The nice plates, the fancy dinner, her excited face, Aaron over more often and the awkward silences. The signs were everywhere, how could I have not of guessed it?

I pushed myself out of the chair and whipped up. "Now Kaitlyn, we asked you to be open minded about this-"

"Your getting married? How could you not ask me how I felt about it!?" I unintentionally yelled.

Darcey sighed, "I was going to-"

"Yeah, after you said yes!" I accused, getting louder and louder. Niall slipped his hand in mine and caressed it with his thumb.
