Chapter 11

It’d been three months since the dance at college, three months since Dante and I went public with our relationship and three months since I’d also left college to be a free woman. Three months ago, Dante gave me the gift he promised me for my birthday, no, not just taking my virginity but another gift. Something I hadn’t been expecting at all. He’d gotten me a sword; a real, forged rapier blade that was engraved with my name on one side the blade and on the other was the name of the sword, Hemera, after the goddess of daylight in Greek mythology. All of my weapons were named after something from Greek mythology, Nereid after the sea nymphs and Atalanta after the woman who refused to follow gender norms.

So, I’d been training a lot with my boyfriend, Jade had taken to watching us both and even confessed she didn’t know who to root for when it came to us actually having a proper sparing session. Jade wasn’t that bad either, turns out Vergil had taught her a small amount of swordplay to the point where she kept the Dimension Splitter with her as a weapon, just to be on the safe side. A lot of sparing matches took place in the back garden, if I won, I got to push Dante in the freezing swimming pool with a little help from Jade but if Dante won? Well, he just picked me up in a fireman’s lift and threw me into the same pool.

It was just that one very normal day something happened. Something that nobody was expecting, we got a guest. A guest that I was more than happy to see, hell, even Jade was. Dante was as well but more or less shocked than anything. On that strangely hot August day, everything changed. And my birth world would never be the same again.

“Dante! NO! PUT ME DOWN!”

My best friend squawked loudly, trying to get my boyfriend to let go of her. Here we were, having a day off in the garden, relaxing by the pool, Jade and I wearing our new bikinis and Dante showing off his body, not that Jade or I minded of course. It was eye candy for the both of us, even my mum couldn’t complain about how well built my gorgeous man was.

“Never Jade! IN YOU GO!”

“NO!”

And with a loud splash, Jade was thrown into the pool. I burst out laughing then shrieked as Dante rushed over and grabbed me, slinging me over his shoulder. My dad was on the phone inside about something, we were also waiting for Zack to turn up, if he did, he’d been hanging around with his new girlfriend a lot lately, something that had upset Jade a little bit. She was slowly healing after the whole other world incident, Dante spoke a lot to her about it, and the two of them sort of had counselling sessions together if you could call it that.

“TRY AND BREAK FREE MASUMI! YOU CAN DO IT!”

“JADE HELP ME GOD DAMN IT!”

Dante just laughed as he flung me into the pool, a splash catching my mum, making her glare at my boyfriend but smile at the same time. For some strange reason, she was actually starting to get on with him, maybe just for my sake she was tolerating him or maybe dad had a go at her for not treating the one she knew I loved with respect. Something had gone down. I’d find out one day, oh well!

“Masumi. Dante.”

I surfaced at the sound of my name, gasping for air as Jade swam over to me, having swam away to dodge my incoming body. My dad was stood in the glass doorway leading to the patio, a frown on his face as he stepped aside, speaking in a very serious tone of voice. My eyes widening when I watched who stepped forward.

“There’s someone here that wants to speak with you.”

Short, jet-black, pixie like hair, red and blue eyes with a scar across their nose, a few more scars over their body. I let out a choked kind of sound from my lips as they stepped out onto the patio, they were wearing the exact same clothes as when I last saw them two years ago, they’d come to my world somehow, I had no idea how but they were here.
