We managed to get Jade out of the game but when she returned, she was silent, tears in her eyes and latched onto my boyfriend. Sobbing into his shoulder, mourning the loss of someone so important to the two of them. I could see the returning sorrow in Dante’s eyes, he knew that Jade would go to his world, he remembered her, he clearly did.

“It’s ok, Jade…”

“N-no it’s not! H-he’s dead… D-Dante… He’s dead…”

For Jade, it’d been weeks, months even, in that game but for us, just a few hours had passed. She’d gone forward in her life and she looked a lot older from it. The sparkle for life in her eyes had been lost; she was distraught over what had happened in that world.

She latched onto me afterwards, I rubbed her back gently and cooed to her, trying to calm her down, it wasn’t doing much good but eventually she did stop crying, just ended up cuddling me like she always did when she was upset, never letting go once. It was an hour later when she finally croaked another word from her sore throat, her eyes red raw from all the tears she been crying.

“H-he called me one of them… What you are…”

My eyes widened, looking at Jade as she glanced up, sniffling and wiping her eyes on her arm. I opened my mouth to speak, that was the problem, while she had gone through the actual world and seen everything, all Dante and I had seen was the game with the Vergil playable skin, like playing as Sparda in the first game.

“A Dimension Child?”

“Y-yeah… Y-you need to do a blood pact… Right? In order to go back with Dante to his world and permanently remain there with him? Well… We’ll do it… Here…”

Jade held her palm out to me, handing me the Dimension Splitter dagger as well, she still had it and it wouldn’t affect anyone now that Jade had touched it and come back without any serious hassle. Well, I say serious hassle, she got her heart absolutely crushed like mine did to begin with, the only problem being she wouldn’t be able to reunite with Vergil. He was gone for good… Gone only to become Nelo Angelo and be defeated by the man who was sat next to us.

“Jade…” My voice was quiet, I didn’t want my parents hearing us, not for this, it was serious business after all, they still didn’t exactly know that Dante and I were together… With relationship problems already rocking the not so happy boat. “Are you sure about this?”

“I’m sure… Just do it.”

I held out my own palm, Dante silently watching as I slid the cool metal across my palm, like a deadly, sharp kiss from the blade to myself. The crimson liquid starting to spill onto the blade and from the cut I’d made, it wasn’t too deep so it would quite quickly heal. Jade took the stained dagger, repeating the same technique that I had done before. Dante proceeded to take the dagger from us, holding it in his hand as Jade and I clasped our hands together, letting the blood mix between us, creating the pact. Yet as the blood mixed with my hand, the same happened to Jade as it did me. We howled in pain, yanking our hands away from each other, our hands were actually sizzling with steam coming off the cuts. What the actual fuck was going on? Did this mean it didn’t work? Well, clearly by the reaction to the blood, the pact hadn’t worked and rejected Jade as the other Dimension Child.

“Fuck… Masumi, Jade… How about you don’t try that again”

My eyes met with Jade’s bright green orbs, a frown on our lips as Dante spoke softly, clearly, Jade wasn’t the Dimension Child I was searching for. So where was the one I was searching for?

The days leading up to the conversation I needed to have with Dante turned into weeks, it was getting to the point where I was going to be leaving college and the leaving ball was coming up but I still hadn’t spoken to my so called boyfriend about the most serious parts of our relationship. Dante was always off somewhere else, talking to Hazel Ford, Kiki’s grandmother, I bet you can tell that I was happy but… He respected the elderly woman so I couldn’t stop him from going to visit her.
