"I figured it out," you cheered, jumping up from your position on the floor. Cody jumped up, startled, and started shaking. "Don't scare me like that," he groaned. "I was about to explode."

You only grinned back, playfully teasing the green-haired male. "Not my fault you get scared way too easily. If you get scared that easily, how do you not blow up every couple of seconds?"

Cody raised an eyebrow, then playfully grinned back and threw an arm over your shoulder. "If you'd like to see me blow up so badly, then maybe I'll do it right next to you! I'm sure you'd like that."

Normally you'd be concerned if a creeper - any creeper - said that to you. But you knew this one personally and got to know him more over the last couple of weeks.

At first, he would only stay for a little bit and watch over you, making sure that you weren't getting attacked by any mobs. Then one day, you decided to go out to the porch to talk to him and he would listen to you and nod. A week later, he would start helping you out by bringing back wool, meat, water, seeds, and other helpful little things.

Then he would occasionally join you for meals. Enjoying his company, you surprised yourself (and him) when you asked him to live with you. "You know, Cody... I don't think it's too comfortable or convenient staying outside. If you'd like, there's plenty of space here. I can build a separate room for you and make you a bed. You can decorate it however you'd like."

You have never seen him smile as big as he did that day.

So now you have a housemate. A messy, sassy, and obnoxious housemate - but still a housemate. And the two of you teased each other to your limits.

He carried his weight around the house by going out to hunt and gather materials. He would come back with various types of meat, seeds, berries, and even the occasional ore.

Out of curiosity, you decided to ask him something. "Hey Cody, how can you bring back this stuff? I thought that mobs couldn't collect things."

He school his head and explained. "It's not that we can't collect things, we just can't mine or build. Like, I can't grab a pickaxe or something, and mine ores. And I can't build a house, or even lay down blocks. I can collect things though - all mobs can. But they do it differently."

You nodded for him to continue.

"As a creeper, I have to blow up near something to collect it. That's how I got these ores. I can hunt animals though, all mobs can do that. That's how I got the meat and wool. The seeds were just laying on the ground so I picked them up. I didn't have to mine anything to get them. If I need something, I'd self explode to get it. Contrary to popular myth, we do respawn and appear normally near the same area. But it's painful for us, so we don't do it unless we need to."

You felt the gears in your head turning and you nodded. "That makes a lot of sense. Is the collecting process different for every mob?"

Now Cody nodded. "Witches have a potion that collects things for them. Skeletons normally shoot at something with a particular type of arrow and it shows up in their inventory. Spiders use their strings. Zombies can breakthrough things and mine, but they use their bare hands so it takes more time. Endermen don't have to mine, they can pick up blocks, but they can only pick up one thing at a time. And so on."

This time, Cody faced you. "Now I have a question for you." You looked a bit puzzled. "What?"

"What did you figure out that was so important that you had to scare me half to respawning?"

You gasped. "Oh, right!"

"Well, I'm waiting."

"I just figured out how to make a healing potion - I finally remembered it! I realized that I left my potions book behind, which is weird because I swear that I had it with me—"

Cody cut you off as he cleared his throat and held something out. "It's right here. I 'borrowed' it."

"Oh."

"Yeah."

Later that night, you headed off to bed in your room as Cody retired to his own. Looking out towards the forest, you sighed and rested your head on your hand as you reflected on everything that had happened in the past couple of weeks.

'I haven't seen from my family yet... I wonder how they are. They're probably getting here. They said that it was going to take some time because they had to lead Steve out first and make sure he's no longer a threat. But, how much time is that?'

At times like this, you wanted to roll yourself into a small ball and cry. But you had to stay optimistic- you had to stay safe and alive.

Brushing tears away, you thought of all the good things that had happened. 'I built a house on my own, I made a garden. Most importantly... I made a friend. I'm happy.'

With that being your final thought, you closed your eyes, ready for good night sleep.

Until the sound of a window smashing echoed through the room and a blue-haired male stepped in and hissed out, "where is he?"

Over the weeks that Cody stayed, he grew fond of you. He trusts you a lot more since you had plenty of opportunities to attack him but never did. He loves the way you playfully tease around with him and let him tease you back.

He also likes that you ask a lot of questions about the mobs and show interest in knowing them as people - not just as these 'terrible monstrosities' that humans normally classify them as. You're different, and you keep proving that through your words and actions. He hopes that you don't change that about yourself.

You remind him of someone he used to know... but who?

Unknown: 0%

He doesn't quite know you.

And you don't know him either.

But he seems angry.
