Cody spared a single glance at you. That glance said it all.
"𝒟𝑜 𝓌𝑒 𝒽𝒶𝓋𝑒 𝓉𝑜?"
You rolled your eyes at your green-haired companion and made your way to the front door. "Yes, Cody. We're checking on whoever that person was."
Cody argued back, eyebrows furrowing. "It's probably just the wind! You're hearing things now."
"I didn't know that the wind could fall off the roof. Well, I'll check on the wind anyway. Just to make sure it's OK," you exclaimed sarcastically, a small snicker settling on your facial expression, looking calmly at the male.
At that, Cody whined. "Firecracker, you're turning into me!" At your laugh, he said, "No, don't laugh, that's not a good thing!"
The small wolf trailed along behind the two of you, her tail wiggling happily and her tongue sticking out of her mouth.
"You can come with me," you cooed at the puppy, gently lifting her into her arms, enjoying her soft tongue tickling your cheek. She seemed all the more pleased at your show of affection. "I'm going to have to name you soon," you said suddenly, looking off thoughtfully. Then you came back down on Earth and glanced outside again.
"Wait what was I doing? Oh yeah, front door. Someone fell off of our roof or something."
"You're saying that way too calmly," Cody stated simply, picking up an apple slice and throwing it into his mouth.
Looking out the window, you did not see anyone. "That's funny."
Stepping outside, something shook and you felt something fall onto you. A spider was hanging onto your doorframe until you'd opened it. Then they fell on you when you opened the door.
You mentally groaned. How many more mobs would you meet who just... 𝒻𝒶𝓁𝓁 onto you? Way too many, apparently.
The spider gave you a bit of a shy, cute grin back. "Hi."
---
At this point, all of you (including the spider) were sitting on your bed. The spider seemed a little tense around the creeper, but said nothing. Cody, on the other hand, looked absolutely livid.
"Why is THAT here?"
Muffling a sigh, you glanced at your best friend and shook your head. "He fell on me outside of the house and said that he didn't have anywhere else to go. What would you do if you were in my situation?"
"Say no. Obviously."
The spider mumbled something sadly and turned to the door. "It's alright, you don't have to take me in. I... I know where I'm not wanted."
You watched him turn to leave and were about to call him back. You'd even reached out to him and were seconds away from calling out "spider!"
But Cody took your hands and shook his head no, his lips clenched together and looking ever so slightly happier.
When the spider left and closed the door behind him, you turned to Cody and crossed your arms. "Cody? What on Earth was that about?"
Cody simply crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow towards you. "I'm trying to protect you. Other mobs aren't to be trusted. You never know when they're going to use you for your kindness and get rid of you when your guard is down." It was frightening to think about - Cody was showing a whole another side of himself. A more primal, possessive side that you didn't know he had.
You considered what Cody was saying and it seemed reasonable. But then you remembered the shyness in the spider's voice, his naturally timid nature, and the uncertainty in his body language. Most of all, you remembered the hope and desperation in his eyes when he asked to stay - like it was a matter of life or death for him.
