Chapter 10 - "Since I Only Gave You Pain In The Time We Were Together"

V examined the speechless and precisely, shocked features of the guys as they remained frozen at their places until Sanha asked, "Sold? But isn't she a human?"
V smiled harshly, his mind wandering to the alleys of their past, once again as he started speaking.

Kim Hyung Ji. The girl who shined as the brightest star in his life since the time he was probably five years old. He would daily look forward to days when he'd see her at the indoor rock climbing wall. The first time he saw her, now that he reminisces, his heart had crumpled up and probably had sent a waving signal to her heart as she came running towards the wall. He saw Eunha with her, who she called her best friend, and to cross check later every time he saw her, he'd stare at the shorter girl to realize that his heart crumpled like that only for one certain girl.
He could remember being a complete mess when she didn't come one day, neither did Eunha. When they stopped coming at all, he got used to her absence. But the child in him only made a pinky promise with both his little fingers that he'd make sure to meet her when he grows up.
Without even a notice, he collided with Eunha years later when he was about to enter high school. She had recognized him because of the butterfly necklace he always wore since he was a child. They got along and the first thing V asked her was, "Are you still friends with Hyung Ji?" And upon knowing that they were a group of six friends from their elementary now, he kinda felt that she had forgotten him. I mean, he wasn't a big part of her life.
When he entered high school and crossed paths with Eunha again, he concluded that his fate did want him to meet Hyung Ji. So he kept talking to Eunha about her and one fine sunny day, when he had reluctantly went to the school trip, his life was turned upside down.
She looked the same, features matured a lot but still the same warmth etched everywhere. But he noticed, there was a tint of grief in her eyes. The eyes that would crinkle a little when she would laugh were now a lot full, but there was emptiness in them. An emptiness that ruined his life for them.
That night outside the camps when she said she thought beautiful things are the saddest, he knew he wanted to protect this girl and keep her safe in his embrace, maybe forever. Because she was right, she was beautiful and probably the saddest.
"I like you," he didn't even know it tumbled down his mouth. He didn't want her to like him back, it was never his wish. All that he hoped for was that he get to be her safe place. He tried telling her through his actions because he feared he'd mess up with words otherwise, that when her days were rough, she could come to him and he'd make her smile; that when she would feel unwell, she could come and rest in his arms; that when someone hurt her, she could come to him and flash a smile. Everything would be okay.
His hopes or wishes crashed the day he saw her choking herself; a sight that haunted him at nights daily. And when she told him it was because of him, he felt the ground beneath his foot being snatched. He wanted to be her safe place and turned out, he was the reason why she chose death. But why?
He didn't know until Eunha told him.

A knock on the door forced V to stop speaking. Lots of curses were cursed albeit muffled when Jihyo peeked in. "Do you guys want to continue the movie marathon?"
