Soon enough, February had rolled around and it was the day before Valentine's Day. I didn't know if I was supposed to ask Brittany to be my valentine since we were already dating. I was deep in thought when Percy came frantically running towards me.
"Whatever it is you're running toward me isn't that important," I told him.
"Oh it is," Percy replied, "Brittany's gone missing."
My mind reeled. Thoughts flooded my head. I stumbled, but caught myself.
"But!" Percy continued, "We know where she is! Brittany smartly left a trail behind. We also know it was some monster because some gold dust was left where she disappeared."
"How do you know she disappeared at that spot?" I asked.
"Because this was there as well," Percy responded, pulling Brittany's dagger out. I was shocked.
"Well... Let's go! Why are we just standing around? We have a trail so let's follow it!" I exclaimed.
We gathered Jason, Piper, and Annabeth. Then we set off following the trail.
We followed this trail until we found a giant warehouse.
"Well this is totally not obvious," Annabeth said in a sarcastic tone.
We walked in. Right away we saw Brittany tied to a pole. Her head lolled to the side. I gasped silently. I looked over to my friends. I didn't know if there were traps so we cautiously walked towards her.
Suddenly, the floor moved underneath us. It began to split. I leapt over the gap filled only with water. Now we ran. Fire spit at us holes in the wall. My pants burned and Percy put the fire out. Knives shot at us. All of us ended up with cuts on our arms and legs.
Finally we made it to Brittany. It turned out she was tied with chains and rope. I untied the rope and hacked at the chain with my sword. Nothing really happened.
"I-I c-can't get her f-free," I stammered.
Percy turned to help me. He shook his head.
"What if you cover the chains with water, freeze the water, and then bust the ice and see if the chains break?" I asked him.
"It's worth a shot," Percy replied.
He shot some water out of one of the pits at the chains. The water froze. I backed up. Then I ran forward with all my might, jumped, and brought my sword down on the ice. Unfortunately, only the ice broke. I looked at the ice shard everywhere, but to see no broken chain links was devastating. I walked over to an ice chunk and picked it up. I looked at my face. This was the first time I saw my scar.
It was about the size of two spaghetti noodles side by side. It was red. Somehow the scar was red. And it went right across my right eye, from just to the left and above my right eyebrow until it was just about parallel to the space between my nose and upper lip. Luckily, the sword that caused the scar didn't stab my eye. But I winked at the ice chunk and could see the scar went over my eyelid.
I looked back at Brittany. I almost forgot. I checked her pulse. She was still breathing. I looked at my friends and pleaded with my eyes.
"We have to get her free," I said, "We just have to." I walked around the pole. It was only wooden so I stabbed at it with my sword. All of my friends came to help.
We hacked down the pole until there was one last bit. I sliced my sword and the pole spilt in two. The chains were now separated from the pole, but still attached to Brittany's arms and legs. I sighed. How would we get her unattached?
"Percy? Do you have Brittany's dagger?" I asked.
Percy nodded and handed it to me. Brittany's blade had a really weirdly shaped edge. It curved into a tiny point. I took the point and stuck it into the keyhole of one of the chain cuffs. I twisted the knife and the chain came loose. I turned to my friends. Annabeth came over with her dagger and helped me out.
Eventually, we had gotten all four chains unattached. I held my girlfriend in my arms.
"Britt?" I questioned gently. "Hey, wake up. You're friends are here."
She slowly began to come back. She opened her eyes and looked at me. She smiled weakly.
"I knew you would come," she said.
I looked out the windows of the warehouse. Some how, it was already night time, possibly early morning. I checked my watch. It was already 7:00 in the morning!
"Happy Valentine's Day," I whispered and grinned. Drama Queen smiled back, "and happy birthday to me."
Somehow we traveled back to camp with no encounters. All of us spent the rest of the day resting and sitting at the lake.
As we were about to go back to their cabins after sitting at the lake, I kissed Brittany's forehead and said, "Our first Valentine's Day... together."
