Aha! The perfect plan... Make Mason get in an argument with Brittany! Possibly have another Aphrodite kid to charm speak him into saying he doesn't actually like her, and I swoop in to help her cope with her break up! Perfect... Now to make it happen. But when? Hm... Maybe during Capture the Flag!
Right now and right here! But it might not work... Ugh. We'll just see what happens I guess.
"Hey Mason! Wanna defend the flag with me?" I asked him.
"Oh uh... Sure kid," Mason replied.
"I'll stay and defend the flag too!" Percy exclaimed. Great. Fantastic! No I'm serious. It's great that Percy wi stay with us just in case Mason and I get... distracted.
"So... Mason right? How's it going with Brittany?" Percy randomly questioned.
"Oh um..." Mason hesitated, "It's great. We're totally great together." He smiled shakily.
"What?! I know that you did not just say that!" I blurted out, "Just some twenty minutes ago you told me you weren't in love with her!" I turned to Percy. I gave him a look of honesty and silently pleaded that he help me out.
"Is that true, Mason?" Percy asked.
"I...um..." Mason stuttered.
"Why are you hesitating, Mason? Are you lying?" I said.
"It's just that..." He looked at Percy. Percy stared him down with a look of death or disappointment.
"Yes, it's true... I don't love Brittany. I only date her to look cool. Especially since she's a daughter of Aphrodite." Mason said and hung his head. He looked at the ground. We heard a shriek and heavy sobbing.
Brittany came around from behind a rock. She wiped away some tears then quickly walked up to Mason.
"I can't believe you!" She yelled furiously, "And I thought we had the same feelings for each other! We are totally through! I-I just can't! I can't right now!" She began stuttering and tears dripped down her cheeks.
"Listen," I said in a calm and soft voice. "I know you're upset and all, but just calm down. After Capture the Flag would you like to sit by the lake and talk?" I sort of pleaded with my eyes. She nodded and walked off.
Brittany came back. This time running with her knife drawn. I pulled out my temporary knife, bracing myself for the attack. She jumped up and came down with her knife toward my head. I blocked the swipe and slashed at her knee. She yelped and turned. She came back again. I waited for Brittany to come super close. I spun out the way and slashed the back of her left leg.
"Wow you're pretty good," she mumbled.
"I heard that and thanks," I said.
Brittany had one hand on her knife, so when she came down toward my shoulder, I grabbed her wrist and worked my hand in between her fingers. I grabbed her knife loose and held it against her neck. I put my own knife against the back of her neck.
"I win," I said simply.
"Hey we could use your help, kid!" Mason shouted.
"Okay, I yelled back. "Sorry but I need to hold you prisoner," I said to Brittany. I took her back to where Percy and Mason were. I sat her down in the prisoner area. As soon as I was back with Percy and Mason, I was engaged in battle.
"What's going on?" I said, blocking my opponent's attack.
"Not sure," Percy said. "We were just attacked out of no where."
"Obviously a planned attack by none other than Annabeth," Mason added.
I nodded and stepped back. I backed up until I bumped into Percy. We fought back to back. Mason came to join us and we fought in a triangle shape. Out of no where, Annabeth leapt at Percy from over my head.
"Percy watch out!" I screamed.
He turned just in time to see an airborne Annabeth flying right at him. Annabeth tackled Percy and they rolled off into the trees.
I squared my shoulders up with Mason's so we were back to back.
"Let's do this," I said determined.
Mason nodded. We fought hard and captured all who tried to get to our flag. Then Percy came back holding Annabeth's arm behind her back. He sat her down with the others.
"Yeah!" I exclaimed. The three of us gave each other a high five. The horn blew.
"Blue team has won!" Chiron announced, "They have captured the red team's flag as well as many of its team members. All campers get ready for bed!" And with that, Capture the Flag was over.
