Jack ducked low behind a pillar as some guests wandered past him.
Sticking to the shadows, he risked looking around the corner to see if anyone else was coming.
He saw no one and began walking briskly to the palace doors.
The celebration party for the new princess was in full swing and he couldn't risk Ana or Kristoff seeing him.
He had been an ass.
He had read the letters Elsa sent, even thought about replying, but in the end he couldn't bring himself to.
His worst fear had come true; he had come to rely on her.
And everyday he'd been away was hell, but he pushed through, like an addict in recovery.
Only recovery never came.
It only made him realize that he wanted and needed Elsa with him.
Always.
Ana's laughter rang out across the room as he entered and Jack froze for a minute, fearing he'd been found.
But when no angry yelling ensued and no guards were called, he resumed searching.
Throughout his life he'd always been searching.
Searching for the problem and searching for the solution, but now he was just searching for salvation.
He needed to lay low a bit more though, until he could find Elsa.
After he had ignored Elsa's last missives, Kristoff had wrote him personally.
His friend had admitted being angry and feeling let down by Jack.
He said that he could see the pain Elsa was in and the stress it was causing Ana.
He told Jack not to come back until he was ready to apologize.
And that's just what Jack was planning on. Finally he spotted something in his peripheral.
A deep green flare amidst a sea of golds and blues.
He didn't know how he knew it was her, it was just a gut feeling.
However the lady in question kept moving along with others who in turn blocked Jacks' vision.
He tried in vain to clearly see who it was, briefly spotting golden hair, but just as soon as she appeared, the mystery woman was out of sight.
Distractedly, Jack surveyed the surrounding guests as he straightened his suit, trying to find her once more.
When his efforts appeared to be fruitless, he trailed the sides of the ballroom, keeping his head low.
Then he saw her again.
It was Elsa for sure and she looked... incredible.
Jack kept his eyes on her as he grabbed a drink from the table and sipped.
He had never seen that color nor dress on her before and had to admit he wished he hadn't, for he'd definitely be seeing it in his dreams.
She was a vision, the emerald only highlighting her hair more, turning it to pure gold.
The dress hugged her like a long lost lover and Jack tried not to linger on how small her waist was or the flare below it.
Her face looked different too.
It was slimmer, more defined with dark coloring over her lids, and more pronounced lips.
Her eyelashes looked thick and long as she laughed at something captain Lucas said.
Here he was, staring at her like a stalker and... wait.
Captain Lucas?
Jack squinted harder as he sized the man.
This again?
The man really must have the worst memory.
In the end however Jack was unbothered by the other man, soon everything would be fixed.
Just then, Elsa seemed to bid a farewell to the soldier and began to turn away.
However just before she got to the exit, she froze.
He watched as she turned around, almost violently, and began to scan the crowd.
Shit, she knew he was here.
That was another thing that amazed him, their ability to sense each other.
Quickly he stepped behind a large group chattering.
He watched as she appeared to give up her search a minute later and exit through the back entrance which he knew led into the gardens.
Hastily, he handed his drink off to a random server and followed her.
The timing could not have been more perfect.
