Jack straightened the dark blue tunic Kristoff let him borrow.
While it was a tad too big, anything was better than his hoodie and jeans.
The last thing he wanted to feel like was being out of place, he was always acutely aware of that feeling and wanted tonight to be the exception.
Absently, he wondered if Elsa would dress up, and if so in what.
Mentally he cringed at the memory of what he said earlier.
He didn't mean to be so harsh but she got under his skin too easily.
Whether she meant to convey so or not, she had walked into the meeting this morning confidently, even after she had lost his test.
How irking.
Pushing her to the side, he was determined not to think of her tonight.
While she seemed relatively unaffected
by him, she was becoming a constant on his mind.
That was quite literally the last thing he needed.
Focusing on the trouble she had caused him, he finished messing with his hair and exited his room.
After a quick walk to the town center, he immediately came upon the gathering.
Whereas it was small in comparison to other kingdoms, there were still a good amount of people here.
Just like the announcement gathering a month or so ago, people milled around mingling, however all classes were present tonight, not just nobility.
Instantly he scanned the crowd and found Ana and Kristoff.
Both were surrounded by citizens and speaking warmly.
After searching the rest of the crowd, he came up short.
Where was Elsa?
Why did he care?
He didn't he told himself.
After speaking with some mutual friends he met along with Kristoff, he began to relax.
A few moments later, as he was joking with a captain of the Arendelle army, an odd sensation came over him.
He didn't know why, but something told him to look behind him.
He was about to shrug it off when he saw the look on the captains' face.
The man was staring over Jacks' shoulder, looking as though an angel had just blessed them with its presence.
After glancing at the nearby faces of a few other men as well, Jack groaned.
Elsa.
Angel indeed, if only everyone knew the opposite was so.
Finally he turned to face the entry along with a handful of others.
He frowned as he noticed she wore a tunic the exact same color and material his was made out of.
Jack glared at Kristoff from across the way who in turn smiled apologetically and pointed secretly at Ana.
Whatever, no big deal.
Still a good portion of village men continued to stare at her as she walked right passed Jack without so much as a glance.
Ok he deserved that for what he said, he was shocked to find out it bothered him though. Realizing Ana was studying him as he watched Elsa, he turned his attention back to the captain, determined to continue the conversation.
However the man seemed to be completely focused on Elsa as she moved through the crowd, greeting people as she went.
Annoyed, Jack left to go get something to eat.
What was wrong with the men in this town?
They acted like they had never seen their ex-Queen, much less a beautiful woman before. Thankfully, his thoughts were soon interrupted as another woman approached him.
She was pretty enough with dark hair and glittering green eyes.
Maybe tonight wouldn't be so bad after all he mused, smiling as she neared.

Elsa still felt eyes on her.
Looking around discreetly, she saw several men including a handsome soldier following her movements with their gazes.
She was not used to such attention since normally it was people angry with her for bringing more trouble or out of curiosity in reference to her powers.
Back when she was queen, no one dared to stare at her so openly as well since it was seen as disrespectful to royals.
However times and rules had changed a lot since Ana and Kristoff had come into power, a good thing too.
They were like proud parents who fussed over their children and it was clear the people loved it after having many disinterested rulers in the past.
She sighed inwardly, not wanting to get into how she failed them as a leader once again.
Finally, she let her gaze land on Jack as he was facing away.
He had frowned when she entered and she realized it was because of her dress.
While she had told Ana that she had plenty of suitable things to wear for tonight, Ana had insisted she wear this.
Now she knew why.
It was a beautiful deep blue that hugged her figure and made her eyes look like pools of sapphires.
She noticed that Jacks' tunic also seemed to have been tailored for his form and it showed his broad chest and shoulders to perfection.
As she had gone past him, she smelled that wonderful pine scent that seemed to float about him and it took everything in her to keep going.
Shortly after, he seemed to forget about her and she tried to hide her disappointment.
As she watched him now, she saw Nora slowly approaching him.
Nora was a long time family friend, the same age as Ana and also gorgeous.
Many men had already tried to win her favor, and it wasn't hard to see why with her good looks.
Elsa walked nonchalantly closer over to a table laden with food.
Going through the motions of getting a drink, she tried to hear what was said as Jack greeted Nora.
If the look on his face was anything to go by, he definitely had noticed how pretty the other woman was.
He definitely was not frowning at her.
Suddenly she jumped as Ana appeared at her side and spoke,
"See anything you like?"
Elsa replied without missing a beat.
"Yes the hackleberry punch is quite good tonight."
Ana chuckled at this,
"It is isn't it? However I was not asking about the refreshments."
With a pointed glance, she looked Jacks' way.
Elsa resisted the urge to roll her eyes.
"Well you can quit asking, what part of he would rather get frost bite than be with me don't you understand?"
Ana clucked her tongue in response,
"I think he protested a bit much don't you? Look at Nora over there, if your not careful she'll snag your guy."
Elsa huffed,
"He's hardly mine, if he were maybe he'd listen for once and take some advice. By the way, the tunics were a nice touch."
Grinning proudly, She said,
"I thought so too."
With that, Ana changed the subject thankfully and chattered on about more baby preparations.
Elsa was so glad for her sister, really she was, but she couldn't seem to drag her eyes away from where Nora was touching Jack on the arm as they both laughed at something.
A throat clearing behind her brought her attention back to Ana, but she was shocked to find the handsome soldier from earlier standing there and not her sister.
Bowing low, he greeted her,
"Your highness it's an honor to meet you."
Elsa chuckled at this.
"No one calls me that anymore as it is rightfully my sisters' title, Elsa is fine though."
The captain smiled widely in response and nodded his head.
"Very well lady Elsa, I'm Captain Lucas Evergreen and I'd be delighted if you'd give me this dance."
It was then Elsa realized that a live band had begun to play.
Hesitating, she looked over to where Jack was, only to see him still consumed by Nora. Something painful built in her stomach while watching them and she shook it off, determined to have a good time tonight.
This was the first time in a long time anyone had shown interest in her and she was going to enjoy it even if it killed her.
Accepting his outstretched hand, she moved to follow him.
