The following week passed in a blur

The following week passed in a blur. School took up most of my time, fifth grade was pretty tough. The week was eventful though filled with tests, homework, emailing, and maybe even a little flirting if I was being honest. I liked Connor a lot, and with how things were going it seemed like he liked me too. Even if we didn't date I knew Connor was someone that I wanted to have in my life.

With a lot of help from him and Ashton that week I ended up acing my math test. I just barely got A, but I was proud. For the first time in a long time I felt smart. Because of my successful math test Ashton was letting me go to the mall with Katie and Connor. Katie and Connor also seemed to be hitting it off really well. They both had the same sense of humor and would spend a lot of the time cracking jokes and making the group laugh.

Ashton was going to take me to the mall to meet up with the two later today. He wasn't going to just leave me there, he had made that abundantly clear, but I did have free reign of the mall with my friends. I was currently getting ready for said trip. I had spent the last 20 minutes trying to find the perfect outfit, something that would make Connors jaw drop.

Currently I was trying to decide between the skinny jeans with a justice crop top or my pink leopard print dress with black leggings underneath. I wanted to be cute but casual. I kept holding them up to my body trying to decide which one would be better. "I'm thinking the leopard" a soft voice spoke behind me. Turning around I saw Ashton standing in the doorway.

"You think?" I questioned holding the dress up again "are you sure it's not too fancy?" That had been my main concern all along, would Connor think I was trying too hard if I showed up in a dress? " I think it's perfect" he said, stepping into the room. " It's one of your favorites isn't it, plus it will go nice with your sparkly sneakers." He was right, the hot pink did pair nicely with the silver sparkles. Plus I did look good in pink, that's what Katie always said.

" You're right," I said, placing my dress on the bed "Sometimes I think you know fashion even better than I do." He chuckled, coming to sit down on the bed. He patted the spot beside me, a silent invitation. I hopped up next to him finally giving him my full attention.

" I have something for you." He began, digging his hand into the pocket of his jeans. " This is just for in case of emergencies, nothing more." He was trying to keep a stern face but I could tell he was excited. The suspense was killing me. What could it be, pepper spray maybe? Or maybe it was one of those devices that when you pulled the string it made a loud screaming sound.

Ashton and I had talked about safety before, he was always a little protective. Finally he pulled a small track phone out of his pocket and handed it to me. "It has my number, Katies mom's number, and 911 all programmed into it." Slowly I began turning the phone around in my hands. My first phone!

This had to be one of the most exciting days of my life. I wrapped my arms around him squeezing tight. "Thank you Thank you Thank you!" I never wanted to let go. This was one of the first things that I had that I could actually call my own.
