"Nah man I just think that this album could have a little more guitar ya know, add something a little more vibey." Micheal said his eyes lighting up "Give the listeners a new kind of experience." Micheal always had these kinds of ideas, good ideas in theory but never being executed properly.
"No way" Calum spoke up "bass is the way to go its deep dark and mysterious just what the girls want." Calum crossed his arms against his chest " and we need to cater to the ladies". "Well" Luke began "I think you two are dumbasses and-" suddenly he was cut off by a loud scream. "Shit what was that" I said, jumping to my feet.
Suddenly my thoughts jumped to Sage. "Shit shit shit" I yelled running up the stairs and busting into her room. Finally I got a good look at her and I let out the breath that I had been holding. It was just a nightmare. "Daddy" her screams rang out across the room. A pretty bad one it looked like.
She was writhing around in her sleep, clutching onto Mr.Snuggles for dear life. She screamed again this time her voice even higher. "Sage" I spoke, softly shaking her shoulder "Sage baby wake up it's just a nightmare."
Finally her eyes shoot open, the tears running down her face freely. Her breathing is what worried me the most it was fast and shallow, closer to hyperventilating than anything. "Sage baby you gotta calm down" I said rubbing her shoulder. Her watery eyes snapped to mine. "Get off of me" she said, shoving my hand off her shoulder. I reached back out trying to soothe her. "Off off off" she said her voice raising with every word .
"Just get out" she finally breathed out. "But Sage baby-" she cut me off. "I don't need you Ashton, not right now" she turned her back towards me "just get out you're not my dad, and I don't need you so please" her voice cracked "just leave".
"Fine" I said a little harsher than I meant too "if that's what you want." Standing up I left the room, the door slamming behind me. It hurt. It truly hurt. I wanted her to trust me so badly. What else could I do huh? I walked down the stairs, my hand gripping the railing in a death grip.
"What happened mate?" I heard Micheal question from the couch. "Nothing" I snapped " I just need a hit that's all." I meant it too, tonight had been a rough night and I wanted nothing more than to just relax. "Alright dude but if you need anything well be here".
I walked toward the patio door "cool" I know it wasn't a great response but it was the only one I could give in the moment. Sliding open the door I stepped into the cold night. Grabbing the lighter from the table and the blunt from my pocket I lit it. Taking a drag, I let the smoke soothe me. Was it a bad habit, sure but it wouldn't kill me.
I just don't understand her. It had been three months since she had moved in. I thought we were making progress. It seemed like she was trusting me more, telling me more about her life. Not just the day to day events, but the past, the moments that led up to our meeting. I thought, I really thought that I was finally becoming a good dad, or maybe not dad but caretaker at the very least. I would love to be her dad but I knew that wasn't something she was ready for. Her dad was still out there and I know that I couldn't replace him. But she was still part of our family one way or another.
