"Get up Annie, we can't be late to class," y/n said, shaking Annie awake.
"Sorry, sorry," Annie said groggily, rubbing her eyes as she sat up.
"Here, take these, I think you'll be needing them," Luna said as she handed over Annies robes to her.
"We'll wait outside in the hall and walk to class together," y/n said and swiftly left the dorm room, Luna following her close behind.
They waited outside for Annie and within a couple of minutes she was out and they were on their way to their first class. They briskly walked through the castle and out to the greenhouse where class was and thankfully arrived on time. Y/n perked up when she saw that Harry and Ron made it to class but didn't want to leave Luna and Annie, so she stood with them at the back.
"Good morning everyone!" Professor Sprout said enthusiastically once she got to her spot at the head of the table. She was a cheery woman with a bright smile and round face.
"Good morning Professor Sprout," the whole class said back in unison.
"Welcome to Greenhouse, second years. Gather around everyone," she said loudly to the class. "Today, we're going to repot mandrakes. Who here can tell me the properties of the Mandrake root?"
Hermione's hand shot up, to no one's surprise. Y/n felt Annie move next her as she shot her hand up as well, surprising y/n and Luna. Annie wasn't the type to answer questions in class, if she was even paying attention. Luna and y/n exchanged confusing looks and turned back to find that Hermione had been called on and received points for Gryffindor.
"Now as our Mandrakes are only seedlings, their cries won't kill you yet, but they can knock you out for several hours which is why I've given you each a pair of earmuffs for auditory protection," the Professor explained rather quickly. "Now could you please put them on right away? Quickly."
Y/n reached for the nearest pair of earmuffs, as the rest of her classmates did. She pulled them over her head so they fit snugly on her ears.
"Now watch me closely," Professor Sprout instructed, "You pull it sharply out of the pot," she continued before she was interrupted by the awful high pitched scream of the Mandrake that anyone could hear, no matter what you had covering your ears. Y/n screwed her face and shied away from the table while Luna and Annie rushed to put their hands over their earmuffs in an attempt to drown out the noise.
"Got it?" the professor continued over the screaming, "And now you dunk it down into the other pot and pour a little sprinkling of soil to keep them warm."
The whole class was distracted when a Gryffindor boy, who y/n was pretty sure was named Neville, fainted and was now on the ground, presumably passed out. Luna's eyes went wide with concern as they looked where he once stood.
"Longbottom's been neglecting his earmuffs," Professor Sprout said, surprisingly calm for just having one of her students pass out.
"No ma'am, he's just fainted," the boy who was standing next to Neville said through a thick Irish accent.
"Yes. Well just leave him there. Right, on we go. Plenty of pots to go around," the professor said moving on from the boy on the floor. "Grasp your Mandrake, and pull it up!" she instructed. The students did as they were told, pulling out the Mandrakes and causing the awful screaming to occur, only this time it was much, much worse. Y/n quickly repotted the Mandrake so it would shut up.
"Look," Annie said to y/n and she nodded her head toward where Malfoy was standing. He was taking his time with his Mandrake, even tickling it's stomach. It didn't seem to like that, as while he was tickling it, it bit his finger. Annie and y/n scoffed to themselves, earning y/n a glare from Malfoy.
"How did he hear us?" y/n whispered to Annie once she looked down to her own hands.
"Who cares, what's the worst he can do?" Annie laughed. Y/n shrugged and chuckled to herself and she turned to wait to see what they were told to do next.

"Wait up you three!" y/n called to Harry, Ron and Hermione once they had gotten out of class. They turned around and waited for her, smiles on all their faces. "What happened to you two?" y/n asked Harry and Ron, "Where were you on the train, and why don't I already know the answer?"
"Calm down, no need to rush," Ron said to her. "And if you must know we uh.. Missed the train."
Y/n's face went blank as that was the last thing she expected to hear but Harry read her mind.
"We took a flying car," he said in a hushed voice.
"A flying car?" y/n asked back in disbelief. Harry and Ron both had a proud smile on their faces.
"I know right? So irresponsible. They were seen!" Hermione said, clearly not that impressed.
"Well, I mean how else were they meant to get to school?"
"Catching the train would have been a good option."
"Hermione, you already gave us a lecture about this," Ron complained, rolling his eyes.
"We told you, we went just after the rest of Ron's family, and we couldn't get through," Harry added on.
"Whatever, you still risked a whole bunch," Hermione sighed.
"Between us three, I think it's pretty cool," y/n whispered to Harry and Ron with a lopsided smile as they reached their class. "See you at lunch," y/n waved to her Gryffindor friends as they walked into the classroom and y/n turned to find her next class.
