Y/n got in a boat with Harry and Ron while she saw Hermione get into another boat with people that she didn't know to get across the lake to get to the castle. Everyone was gaping in awe at how striking the castle that lay before them was. They got off the boat and were led to a hall where they stood on a staircase. At the top of the staircase stood a fairly tall woman. She had grey hair that was pulled tightly into a bun at the back of her head. She wore a black triangular hat on the top of her head and she sported a pair of glasses that stayed on the edge of her nose.
"Welcome to Hogwarts. Now, in a few moments you will pass through these doors and join your classmates, but before you can take your seats, you must be sorted into your houses. They are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin." Y/n looked over and saw a blond boy smirk when the professor called out Slytherin. "Now while you're here," she continued, "your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you points, any rule breaking, and you will lose points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup.""Trevor!" someone abruptly interrupted, pushing his way to the front to get the toad. Everyone turned to see the boy who Y/n figured to be Neville. Once he had got his toad, he shyly moved back to his place. "Sorry," he added sheepishly. Ron turned to Y/n and they both had a smile plastered on their face, Harry included.
"The sorting ceremony will begin momentarily," the professor finished, then she turned and walked away.
"It's true then," a high pitched voice caused everyone to turn to see who it was coming from, which was the blond boy from earlier. His hair had an unreasonable amount of gel "What they're saying on the train. Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts. This is Crabbe and Goyle," he walked over to Harry and extended his hand. "And I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy," he finished proudly. Ron snickered, causing Y/n to laugh involuntarily, which didn't go over too well with Malfoy. "Think my name is funny do you?" he lashed to Ron, "no need to ask for yours. Red hair and a hand me down robe, you must be a Weasley," he added nastily.
"Your name isn't funny Malfoy, it's pathetic," y/n managed to get out through her laughter, "but believe what you want to believe."
"Like you're any more significant than a Weasley," Malfoy said bitterly.
"I'm Y/n Roway," she simply stated back.
Malfoy's eyes widened but then he rolled them and turned back to Harry, which made y/n scoff. "You'll soon find out that some wizarding families are better than others Pottah," he continued uninvitedly. "You don't want to make friends with the wrong sort," he sneered as he turned to look at Ron. "I can help you there," he finished his speech as he extended his hand to Harry.
"I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself thanks," Harry retorted after glaring at Draco's pale hand for a second. Before Draco could say anything in response, the professor from earlier came and tapped him on his shoulder and Draco moved out while he glared at Harry.
The group of first years were led to the front of the great hall. Y/n heard Hermione say something about the roof being bewitched to make it look like the night sky, but y/n was too mesmerized by the stars to really pay attention. Once they reached the front of the hall, she saw a brown old looking hat which she knew to be the sorting hat. Once all the first years had caught up to the front of the hall, the professor started to read off of a list of names.
"Y/n Roway," y/n heard murmurs as she shuffled her way to the sorting hat. Harry, Ron and Hermione had been sorted into Gryffindor, much to the rest of the Gryffindor's delight. She was upset at this because it meant she'd have to make new friends when she was sorted into..
"Ravenclaw!" the anthropomorphic hat yelled, interrupting her thoughts. The students sitting at the Ravenclaw table erupted into applause as she made her way over to the table. She caught her friends' eyes and gave them a small smile. As she took a seat next to a kind looking blonde girl, she noticed Malfoy was staring at her, to which he quickly looked away and started to talk to Crabbe.
"Hello, y/n, I'm Luna," the girl dreamily introduced herself.
"Hi Luna, lovely to meet you," y/n returned with a smile.
Just then, right in front of the two girls, food appeared on the plates. They happily started to eat and to y/n's pleasure, the food kept coming, never running out.
After they had eaten to their satisfaction, Dumbledore dismissed all students to go to their house dorms. Y/n talked to Luna as the two girls made their way to the Ravenclaw tower.
"Your owl is very pretty," Luna said to y/n when they entered their room.
"Thank you, her name is Heather," just then two more girls came in, one with straight long black hair and bangs, and the other had shoulder length dirty blond hair.
"Erm hi guys, my name is Cho and this is Annie," the girl with bangs said, pointing at the blond haired one.
"Hello, I'm Luna and this is y/n"
"We kinda gathered that from the Great Hall," Annie chuckled as she walked over to her bed.
"Nice to meet you guys," y/n smiled but then abruptly yawned. "I say we get some sleep, I've had a long day," she smiled as she tried to suppress another yawn.
"I agree, I'm tired too," Luna responded.
"G'night everyone," Annie said kindly.
"Goodnight," everyone else responded as they tucked themselves into the royal blue sheets.
