(Y/N)'s P.O.V.

"Now, (Y/N), remove all those nails and put them back in the box." Gally's mocking tone carried over the small distance between us, the Glade having gone extremely quiet as if holding it's breath, and it took me a few seconds to process what he'd just said.

I couldn't believe he'd - That's a lie. I totally could. All at once the sounds of the breeze rustling through the leaves, the clanging of the builders, and my calm breathing came flooding into my eardrums. Anger burned within me, igniting a flame that coursed through my veins. I almost felt as if I could make myself glow with that fire. Fire powers would be a great bonus right about now, I thought to myself, almost smiling at the thought. I can't believe I let myself fall for this. Why didn't I ask him more questions?

Instead of exploding right in his face, I willed myself to calm down, however satisfying the thought was to unleash my fury. Unclenching my fists, I plastered a fake smile on my face. "Sure, Gally, let me just get that hammer so I can swap it out with whatever in the world you use to tear out nails from a plank of wood." I told him, turning around to grab the hammer. However, as I turned back to him, I let the hammer fall from my hands a little forcefully.

Letting it land straight onto Gally's foot.

"Shuck, (Y/N)!" He cried out, thrusting the plank of wood in my direction and bending down to clutch his shoe-clad foot.

"Oh no! Are you ok?" I asked him, knowing he wouldn't be focused enough to hear the mock pity in my voice.

"What was that for?!" He demanded, slightly whimpering.

Maybe I had pushed the hammer down too hard, I thought, but if he can still treat me like dirt then I'm not going to care. "Excuse you?! I'm trying to help! And it was an accident!" I told him, willing my voice to sound incredulous. "Why ever in the world would you assume that I dropped the hammer on purpose?"

"Why wouldn't you? You obviously hate me enough to knock me out, so what's stopping you from breaking my foot whilst you're at it?"

At this I falter. While it is true I dislike Gally to an extent, I never hated him - except I'm real close to doing so now. "Is that what you really think of me? Well then, I'll go get Jeff or Clint to come help you, because I am obviously not wanted here. You should've just told me you didn't want me here in the first place. The time I'd wasted could've been put to use in some other place." I huffed, and marched out to the Homestead.

It was already dusk out, the sky lit up by a rainbow of colours from the setting sun. I could get lost in the mesmerising hues any minute of the day - well, so long as they were visible. Glancing around the Glade, I could make out the figures of the Gladers finishing up their work for the day, and getting ready to head to dinner. Minho was probably still out in the Maze with his smaller group of "explorers", as I'd nicknamed them. Many had decided that although they wanted to explore the place, running just wasn't for them. That included Gally, which was why he was a builder now. Newt sometimes took it in turns too, from what I'd observed. And seeing as he was nowhere to be seen, I assumed he was out running in the Maze alongside Minho.

I entered the Homestead, and was immediately met with the noise that wafted up from the various groups sitting around tables, spilling outside too. I waved to Frypan, who was already serving up the food he'd wanted to keep a secret, and turned for the doctors' room. Thankfully, Jeff and Clint were tidying up, and it seemed like I'd caught them right before they were heading out to dinner.

"Uh, hey, you guys still taking patients?" I asked in way of greeting.

Jeff turned to me, just realising I was stood between the doorframe. "Who, you? Does your head hurt? Did you fall down? Are you allergic to something?"

I blinked, eyes widening at the sudden onslaught of questions. "Uh, no, not me. It's Gally actually. But I'm totally sure he'd understand if you guys are way too busy getting dinner. Food does keep us alive, y'know?" I joked, hoping it wouldn't seem too alien that I was asking for their help for the one person I'd managed to knock unconscious on my first night in their presence.

Clint chuckled a bit, but shut up after Jeff smacked him lightly over the head. "Yeah sure, we're gonna go. He's in the place he works, right?"

"Yep." I answered, popping the "p".

"Thanks. What happened?"

"I accidentally dropped a hammer on his foot."

Jeff widened his eyes, but nodded, and motioned for Clint to follow him. Clint, on his way out, patted me on the back. I assumed he approved of my actions. Did I just earn one more friend? I will surely need as many allies as I can get in the Glade, now more than ever, seeing as Gally threatened me to watch out. I sigh. Why can't that kid just stay out of my way?

I exited the small room, and started making my way towards the counter where I could grab my meal, eager to see Frypan's hard work, and a lot more eager to actually let my taste buds run wild. I grabbed a plate of what looked like boiled eggs in some kind of sauce, with a side platter of green salad and cheesy spaghetti. Yum.

Today, I decided to claim a table outside, free in the cool breeze that carried across the Glade, and started savouring the aromatic food. It only took a few minutes for the seats next and opposite me to be filled, as before; Newt on my left and Minho opposite me.

"Hey, guys." I greeted them. "Lovely weather we're having, no?"

They both raised an eyebrow to each other, but said hi either way. "So, what'd you do today? How were the jobs? Anything you like?" Asked Newt, seeing as Minho was too busy inhaling his food.

"Hmmm, I don't know. Butcher is a definite no-no, and being a cleaner is tiring when you have to do extra stuff. And a builder is just for someone that doesn't have a grudge held against them." I shrugged, lifting up another spoonful to my mouth.

"Wha, wha appen?" (Why, what happened?) Asked Minho, mouth still full. Thankfully, none of it went flying anywhere.

"Don't talk with your mouth full!" Newt and I exclaimed at the same time. Minho just widened his eyes, while we glared at him.

"Whoa, sheesh, ok, calm yourselves." He defended, but went back to his food. Just then, Frypan plopped down on the seat next to Minho, and after a quick greeting from each of us, I sighed, slumping my shoulders, and went through what happened with Gally earlier. Newt looked confused and angry at what a pointless activity Gally had me do when the whole point was to teach me stuff, Frypan looked like he was considering halving the dude's meals, and Minho looked like he was just about ready to beat Gally up himself.

"Thanks guys, but I don't need the protection. Sure I appreciate it, but just because I'm the only girl in the Glade, doesn't mean I don't know how to take care of myself. Please only step in between this if I ask, ok?" They all nodded, albeit reluctantly. "Thanks. And speaking of the Glade, I was wondering if there was any way we could ask our imprisoners for stuff. Like, they always bring stuff up with the box, but what if we need something specific?"

"Like glue?" Asked Minho.

"Why'd you need glue?" I asked.

"No reason." He shrugged.

"Yeah, there must be a way." Agreed Newt, and Frypan nodded.

"What if we ask-" I started.

"For stuff-" Continued Minho.

"In the same way-" Carried on Frypan.

"They deliver it to us?" Finished Newt.

We all looked at each other then, excitement shining on all our faces. "Through the Box!" We declared.

Newt nodded excitedly. "I'm pitching this idea to Alby as soon as possible."
