(Y/N)'s P.O.V.

Staring at all of the Gladers slowly filling the small council hut, my hands trembled at my side, and sweat oozed between them. And no matter how many times I wiped them down on my trousers, they still remained clammy. How. Absolutely. Unfortunate, I thought, swinging my legs on my chair.

It just suddenly occurred to me that I'm going to be judged by several fourteen/fifteen year olds, and the only people I knew were rooting for me were my (very) recent crush and (very) recent friend/s. Great. But hey, maybe everyone else will have a change of heart...?

Turning towards the doorway once more, my wandering thoughts are halted as my eyes meet the very reason why I'm here in the first place; Gally. He takes a second to glare at me, before smirking, and moving to go sit somewhere. I tear my gaze away from his retreating figure, and bring my eyes down. What was that about? I thought, the worry in my head thickening as if it were a dense fog. I couldn't think in these conditions: I was under too much pressure.

The only plan I had was to defend myself with any means possible, and if need be run out to the openings - through to the maze beyond. Or just depend on Newt and Minho, and possibly Frypan. Unless they were actually lying about wanting to be my friends?

I had to stop thinking, or else I'll start panicking, and probably have a panic attack. Calm down, (Y/N), this is not a real trial. Closing my eyes, I breathed slowly, regulating the amount of air being pushed into my lungs. All I have to do is think everything I say through, and hope as many people as possible will be on my side for this. I can do this.

Zoning back in, I realised the previous chatter surrounding me was no longer present, and that a hush had fallen over the audience. Turning to face Alby, I waited for him to start.

"Hi everyone, I assume you all know why we're here, seeing as everyone was here yesterday-" He started, but was interrupted by the same voice as yesterday.

"Today!"

Alby just rolled his eyes, deciding to ignore the boy. My mind didn't offer up a name to match his face, so I didn't know who he was. "As I was saying, everyone was here earlier-" at this he gave a pointed look to the same boy in the audience, "- this morning to witness our newest arrival launching an apple at Gally's head. Obviously, if we're to create a civilised society, we have to have rules, and fit punishments for when they're broken." I felt as if that last line was directed at me, personally. And I guess what he was saying made sense, but, really? I didn't even know the rules!

Whispered chatter broke out between the Gladers, most of them glancing at me in between their rushed conversations. I squirmed in my seat, feeling uncomfortable. Who knows what they were devising?! Trying to appear nonchalant, I glanced around the hut, catching Minho's eyes. He seemed to have been observing me for quite a while, seeing as soon as I had met his eyes, he gestured to the door. Is he asking if I want to go outside...? Nodding my head, I watched as he walked up to Alby, said something, had Alby nod, and then walked over to me. A few moments later we left the stuffy hut.

"Thank you so much. You saved me from a mental breakdown back there." I confessed, leaning against the hut's wall, sliding down to sit on the grass.

"Don't mention it. But I kinda sacrificed my vote to lessen your punishment, so..." He gestured wildly with his hands.

"Haha, I guess. Oh well, whatever it ends up being, I'm glad I got to know you at least. You must be one of the best of friends I've ever made, and one of the most short-lived ones too!" I chuckled dryly, trying to mask my nervousness.

Minho scrunched up his forehead, and lent down to grab me by my shoulders. "Hey. (Y/N). You are not going to be sentenced to death, ok? Have some faith in those guys, ok? Newt's second in command anyway, and the shank can put in a good word for you, ok?"

I nodded, weakly ripping at the grass beneath my fingers. Minho sighed, tugging a hand through his hair, before huffing and sitting down next to me. "Tell me a story." I turned to him, confused. A story? For what? My expression must have voiced my thoughts, because a second later he elaborated. "Anything. Just to get your mind off of this. And to amuse me, mostly." I smiled, shaking my head as I turned my head away. Picking at the grass in my hands, I though long and hard about any stories I could remember. Small details floated up to the surface, and even though it was nothing concrete, I strung them all together.

"Once upon a time, there lived a dragon who was very lonely because all of the villagers within her mountain's proximity feared her. The only contact with them she had was to accept the riches they offered her every year, but that was left to be picked up from the bottom of the mountain. It went on like this for centuries, and as the world around her changed and fell away to reveal the new age, she was forgotten about. But a decade further, a young girl clambered up to her cave, feeling the power and warmth the dragon radiated. Finding the young girl a playful creature, she awaked fully, and adopted the girl as her child. They spent the seasons together, loving each moment of their lives.

"But sadly, tragedy had to strike them one fateful winter. The girl had gone out to the closest city; for some food. She was struck down by a blizzard, and found hours later; frozen to her core. The city's residents knew she lived with the dragon, so they brought her up to the dragon one last time. Heartbroken, the dragon exchanged some riches as her gratitude for the humans, and was left with her deceased daughter. Thankfully, the dragon's magical flame was able to reawaken the girl, and had her life force bind with the dragon's; ensuring a long and happy life for them both, together." I finished with a flourish, bowing my top half for effect.

Turning back to Minho, I saw him crack a smile. "Truthfully, the death was unexpected, but otherwise pretty cool. You should start a story telling club with the-"

"Minho! Bring her in!" He was interrupted by someone shouting.

"Oh well, that's our cue." Standing up, he offered me a hand, which I gladly accepted. "But really, awesome story."

My lips stretched into a smile, and as I glanced towards the Glade's furthest corner away from me, I whispered, "You were right. I did forget about the meeting." Minho nodded, grinning, before leading me back inside to the dome of doom.

When we entered, everyone's eyes immediately focused themselves on me. I turned away, looking for Newt. When I'd met his eyes, he flashed me a grin alongside a thumbs up. I hope that means that I was not guaranteed a death sentence.

Taking a seat back on the stool I was initially reclining on, I awaited my verdict. Turning my eyes to Alby, I watched him with what I hoped was the evilest glare I could muster. I probably look like a shrimp, I thought, almost laughing out loud.

Clearing his throat, Alby turned his attention to me. "(Y/N), we have decided on a punishment for you. For the rest of your time in the Glade, you will assist every Glader in whatever you're best at, taking on three jobs, but will spend all your free time in the Slammer for a month. Your work trials start later today."

I sigh, nodding my head. "Thanks for not killing me off everyone!" I exclaimed, and to everyone's confusion, only Minho laughed. Sneaking a glance at Newt, I saw him watching me already, and averted my eyes, face burning. One thought clouded my mind on my way outside;

Here we go, I guess. Uncontrollable bursts of blushing.
