(Y/N)'s P.O.V

Seeing the first Gladers making their way out into the stone corridor, I was snapped out of my daydream, making my way over to their main shack with a bag, where the kitchen was located. I was starting to run out of canned food, and some fruits wouldn't be bad either, since the lift thingy had come up yesterday, bearing supplies.

At times, I wished I could just saunter in whenever I wanted to. But what would the boys think? As far as I could tell, there were no other girls here except me. And there was another thought. What if something worse happened? What if... the boys were not the ones I was supposed to be hiding from? By this point, I was sure that the people who sent us and could control us could probably do  worse than anything any of us could imagine.

I shivered, willing the thought out of my mind. Concentrate, (Y/N). Remeber why you're here. I shook my head, rummaging through the cupboards, picking out anything they had in a large supply; I was hoping that by taking a small amount of what there was most of would make it seem like everything was in its rightful place and nothing was taken from anywhere.

I stocked up on a few canned tins of tuna, peaches, and sardines, before peeking out the window again. All clear. From the countertops,  I took a few apples, bananas, and oranges, before opening the fridge and taking some of a leftover meal; hard boiled eggs and macaroni cheese. Stuffing all of this into my bag, I proceeded to check out of the window again. Oh no! One of them's back! Does that mean- I need to hurry up! Dumping my -really heavy- bag onto the floor, I hissed when I realised there were soft foods in there, that were bound to go brown. Stupid! I sighed, taking out three water containers that I started filling up from the water bottles already there.

Suddenly, a loud commotion rang from one of the openings. Oh, man, I need to go. Realising that I could not carry everything at once, I shuffled to the back most window of the kitchen area, and dumped my containers outside. Picking up my discarded bag of food, I followed suit, landing in the dry dirt. Dusting myself off, I carried the containers in the shade of a tree, pulling down some leaves and covering them in dirt. This'll have to do for now, I thought. Hearing the voices get louder, I adjusted the bag on my back, and ran like there was no tomorrow.

The water would have to wait until I had the cover of night to accompany me. I just hoped that I wouldn't die of thirst till then. You'll be fine, stop worrying, I reassured myself. Most people can survive days without water.

Reaching the corner of the "Glade", I tied up my bag to a piece of ivy. Scaling the curtain-like pieces, I reached my hideout. Pulling on the piece that my bag was tied to, I excruciatingly tugged it up. Finally disposing it further in my room, I collapsed, utter exhaustion overtaking my features.

***

A while later, I woke up, yawning. Rubbing my eyes with one hand, I reached with the other to my water bottle - the only one that I kept next to my makeshift bed (the others were closer to the entrance). Opening it, I tipped the bottle at an angle.

One.

Two.

Three.

That's it?! Only three drops of water?! I sighed, irritated,  getting up and crawling toward the entrance. My water containers were nowhere to be seen. What?! Where- who- I-?!

I facepalmed, remembering what I had done earlier to avoid being caught. This meant that I had to trek all the way to the other side of these deep, dark woods. At night.

I shuddered. I was not one to be scared easily... but something felt off tonight. I... couldn't explain it. Just a gut feeling. But no one should ever ignore their gut feelings, so here I am. But I was parched, and needed a drink. Carefully moving the boxes in front of the entrance to the side, I stuck my head out, making sure that there was no one there. Coast clear. Hanging on the vines, I jumped down the wall slowly, the vines burning my palms. I really should tie some cloth around my hands next time I do that, I thought.

Trudging through the woods, I head some inhuman screams from over the wall. I made sure to keep close to the walls, just in case. Nearing the place where I thought I had left my water, the hand that was gliding across the stone, ivy-covered wall suddenly came in contact with... Plastic?! I leaned down for a closer look, brushing aside some stray strands of ivy. Pressing my face into the panel, I looked through it, being met with the view of a stone corridor. A few seconds went by, and just as I was about to leave the small widow-

BAM!

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...!" I shrieked loudly, stumbling backwards and landing on my butt. I continued screaming, even as the... the... creature rolled away from my line of vision. It was grotesque,  to say the least. It was sort if like an oversized slug, and it had these... lights. And metal contraptions of some sort bulging out of it.

Whirr...

Click. Click.

Whirr...

I shuddered, finally calming down. My face felt wet, and sure enough, as I had raised my hands to it, it was overrun with tears.

I'm pretty sure I had just experienced a heart attack. Am I... dead? I wondered. Everything seemed out of focus. I could no longer feel my body. Only pain and-

Darkness.

***

Next time I woke up, I threw myself at a wall. All I wanted to was cry. And I just ended up being controlled again after I blacked out yesterday. At least I was safely in my quarters. With water this time. Two containers for drinking, one for bathing. At least they didn't want me dead.

But what was the point?! I screamed in my head. What's the point of being alive when all you do is toss my body around when I'm unconscious?! I hate you!

I wiped the tears from my eyes. I was not going to cry over this.

No.

I was going to fight.

A/N

Hiiiii everyone!

First of all, I'm really sorry for not updating sooner. I had this chapter almost ready about a month ago, but I just kept on being set work and work and work that I just didn't have time to finish it. But finally... here it is! I hope you've enjoyed it, and thanks for sticking with me.

Second of all, I just realised that my story timeline doesn't make sense. This is set around three years before the actual start of the original Maze Runner by James Dashner. This means that everyone has to be about three years younger now. So I'll go back in a few chapters where I've written ages and change all of them to fourteen/fifteen year olds. For now, just imagine everyone in the Glade as a fifteen year old.

And third of all, thank you guys so much for 550+ reads!!! You have no idea how much this means to me!!! So thank you again!!!

And that's it for now. If you have any questions, just comment them down, whilst I go and continue on the next chapter.

Hope you have a great day/night (or whatever the time)!
