Beverly leaned against Richie before they walked into the basement, "I have a suprise." Beverly whispered. Richie raised an eybrow, "Is that so?" Richie asked. "I got a karoke machine." Beverly said. Richie chuckled, "Well, we better all get down there." Richie led the group down into the basement.
"Nice job Bev!" Ben complimented. "I need a drink in me." Richie complained. "What does everyone like?" Beverly asked. She always makes drinks for people, it's her favorite thing to do.
"You know what we all like. Eddie? Got a particular drink you like?" Richie asked. "You don't have to drink anything if you don't want to." Richie whispered to Eddie. "I don't drink. Thank you for asking though." Eddie smiled.
Ben walked to the boombox and played the group's party mix.
"Look in the drawer in the table the boom box it sitting on!" Beverly said while making Bill's drink.
Ben pulled out a plastic bag full of pre-rolled joints. "Thank you Bev!" Richie ran over and hugged her.
Richie slid his back against the wall and sat on the floor. Ben tossed the plastic bag at Richie.
Richie dug in his pocket to find his bright pink lighter. "Sit down Eds. You don't have to smoke anything if you don't want to. I just want some company." Richie said before lighting the stick.
EDDIE'S POV
I gulped and sat down as Richie lit the joint. I always heard about people smoking weed during parties, but I never thought it was true.
I would normally be disgusted. But, this time felt different. Richie held the thin stick in between his fingers. Richie has huge hands! How have I never noticed? Richie still had a busted lip, but it just added to the effect.
Beverly placed Richie's drink next to him. "Thank you Bev." Richie thanked in a raspy voice. Richie grabbed the light pink drink and sipped it. "Whatcha got there?" I asked, curiosity took over. "Raspberry cocktail. I'm a fruity guy, what can I say?" Richie chuckled.
"Can I try it?" I asked without even thinking. I would normally slap my mouth shut and say nevermind. But, once I was aware I said what I said, I didn't take it back.
"Sure Eds." Richie handed the cold drink to me. I sighed and took a sip from the drink. Fruity, a little sweet and sour. Once I swallowed I felt the slow burn from the alcohol.
"Do you like it?" Richie asked. "No bad." I admitted.
That's when it hit me. I'm eighteen years old. I can smoke a joint if I want to smoke a fucking joint.
"Hand m-me one." I said with a slight stutter. "Hand you what?" Richie played dumb. "A joint." I stated.
Richie nodded and handed me a joint and his dumb lighter.
"You two are hogging it! Hand us all a stick Rich!" Beverly said. Richie tossed the group a joint each and they all produced their own lighters.
I saw the flame come out of the lighter. I placed the flame under the tip of the joint.
I sighed. Goodbye innocence.
I placed the stick in between my lips and inhaled. Not so bad. It didn't taste great, but the smoke didn't hurt. I didn't cough like I expected.
I exhaled and watched the thick smoke flood the room. "Took it like a champ." Richie said. I didn't realise he was watching me until now. I felt my cheeks burn and I smiled.
~
Richie finished off his drink and stood up. "Dance with me?" Richie asked right as purple rain by Prince started playing.
I smiled and stood up, "Gladly." I truthfully said.
It looked like Ben was asking Beverly the same thing. She nodded her head and took his hand in her own.
I felt bad for Bill. He didn't have anyone to dance with. But, he looked like he was having the time of his life.
Bill was swaying back and forth, a joint placed in between his fingers, eyes closed, and a large smile. I grinned and looked up at Richie.
"Do you know how to dance?" I asked. "Not at all, but I'm a quick learner." Richie winked. He placed his hands on my hips and I wrapped my arms around his neck. I would normally freak out in this situation. I would probably pull my hands away, blush, and run off. But, the joint really helped me.
We swayed back and forth in beat to the music. I smiled when I heard Richie hum the song. "Can this be our song?" Richie asked, the joint made him sappy. "Of course it can." Maybe it made me sappy too. I smiled as I placed my head against Richie's chest. I can hear his heart beat slightly speed up.
I smiled at the fact I had such an effect on the tall boy.
I laced my fingers around the curls of Richie's hair. Richie smiled and held me closer.
"How's it going doctor Kaspbrak?" Richie asked with a big smile. "I won't be doing great if you keep calling me doctor Kaspbrak." I teased. "So you're doing great?" Richie asked. "Of course I am." I admitted.
The song slowly came to an end. But, neither of us let go, we didn't even pause. We kept swaying to the silence.
Who knew that Richie Tozier could make me feel this way in such a short amount of time?
