Lynn POV
When the last bell had rung Cameron followed me to my locker and then we walked out to his car in silence. I got in on the passengers side and almost immediately took out my notebook.
"Alright. Let's start brainstorming."
"What do we have in common?" He asked and kept his eyes on the road, he took a sharp right.
"My house is the other way Cameron."
"I know. We aren't going to your house."
"What do you mean we aren't going to my house?! Where else are we going Cameron."
"We're going to have fun." He said taking a quick left.
"Cameron we have to do work."
"Consider this background."
"Let me out of the car."
"No."
"Why not?"
"We have work to do."
He put his warm hand on my leg and looked at me with a smile, "I know what I'm doing." His hand slid off my thigh but I could still feel his touch.
He flicked on the radio and almost immediately he was singing to Often by the Weekend. I sat with my arms crossed. He went from not so bad to the same stereotypical asshole everyone knew he was.
He couldn't sing. It was cute. Wait no it wasn't. He can't be cute. He is everything I can't have in my life. We drove past building after building until we finally reached a small shop at the end of a strip mall.
"Where are we?"
"What do you mean? We're at a store. We're going to get food. I'm hungry."
"Why?"
"Well I mean I need food to sustain energy..."
"No Cameron. I had food at my house why aren't we at my house?"
He laughed and then got out of the car. I still sat without moving in rebellion. Why on earth would he take me here? He was probably going to prank me or even worse expose me to his goons who had bullied me since the start of highschool.
In Freshmen year I was always being bullied by them for being too skinny and for looking like a Barbie doll. I was always so self-conscious on how I looked. That's why I loved Matt so much, he never said how I looked... He only ever addressed my personality and what was on the inside.
Cameron opened my door, "coming princess?"
"Why so you can prank me and bully me again?"
"What? No. In case you forgot I'm the one who saved you from your ugly ass ex!"
"This is all just a scheme to get me to trust you so you can hurt me!"
"Get out of the car! I'm trying to be nice."
"No. I'm staying."
"Fine. Do you want anything from the store?!"
"Do they have barbaque chips?"
"Yes. I'll get you some. Baked or normal?"
"Normal."
And he left and went into the store. I felt sort of guilty for yelling at him, maybe he was trying to be nice.
He used to be friends with my brother, Todd. He and his crew that consisted of Nash, Taylor, Aaron, Shawn, and Hayes. They had always bullied me which is part of the reason why I never thought I was pretty which really messed up my bowling game for a long time. I had always been a ball of stress since then... The sooner I left this town the sooner I'd forget it.
I remember last year Shawn, Hayes, and Aaron had all gotten their girlfriends and their girlfriends always said I was over reacting and never used my common sense.
It stung to remember how much they hated me and to be sitting in the prime bully's car made me break. I began to get scared of how much he could say wasn't up to standard to me. I began to curl up into a ball and cry.
Cameron saw and rushed to me he opened the door and began to talk to me.
"Hey what's wrong? Lynn?" He said. He pulled my long chocolate brown hair out of my eyes and took his thumb then rubbed off my tears. "What happened?"
"Don't touch me please." I sniffled and sat up.
"You know what... We can have fun tomorrow. Let's go home." He threw a bag into the back of his car and got in the drivers seat. He turned on the car and we began to head to my home.

Cameron's POV
When we pulled up to her house I opened her door and she stepped out. I got her backpack and she opened the door. She led me to her room and then I set down everything. She sprawled out on her bed and took a deep breath in.
"Hey I'm going to put on some sweats alright?" She said, "so don't look...alright?"
"Alright."
I closed my eyes and she began to get dressed, I thought about how different she was from the car. I looked back at the days when I would bully her. I felt horrible about it... I always knew it was wrong but I never knew it hurt her this bad.
"You can open now."
She wore a tight black tank top and some sweat pants that were twice her size. She pulled her long brown hair up into a ponytail and then slipped on some glasses.
"Alright. What do we have in common?"
"Well... Uhh.. I don't know. What do you do for fun?"
"I bowl competitively... I play percussion... Annndd I don't know. Not really anything else."
"Don't you go down to the beach every Friday for the prep parties."
She laughed and shook her head, "those? I only went because of Matt. All they do is drink and swim naked in the lake."
"I guess you and Matt were pretty serious."
"No. We didn't go that far. He respected my decisions about saving myself. I know this is awkward but how far have you gone?"
"Uhh..." I thought about that, not far at all. I never really wanted to go to far. "Making out... Not very far."
"Really? Wow. Jenny lied." She laughed, "well anyway. What do you do for fun besides take your partners to get food 10 miles from home?"
"Wait- what did Jenny say?" I was concerned, I had dated a prep one time thinking maybe I'd fit in. It didn't work out... I told her I wasn't interested then she got mad and left.
"She just said you guys did stuff..." She looked back down at her notebook, "forget I asked... Alright. Things in common... Uhh"
"We both hate the beach?"
She smiled a cute little smile, she shrugged and looked at me trying to compress her smile, "seriously. What else do we have in common."
"We're obviously the hardest working in this class."
She leaned her head on her wall and smiled again, her teeth shone out of her mouth like white pearls, "people don't give you enough credit."
"They don't ever want to get to know me."
"They should."
Later in the night we ordered some pizza and began to scratch out the song ideas that wouldn't work for us. Most of the songs were jokes which we assumed would work well because we both found each other funny. I got a call from Nash later in the night.
"Hey look I have to take this... I'll be back alright?"
"Yeah sure no problem." She smiled.
N: Bro, where are you?
C: I have a project.
N: with who?
C: a girl from a class.
N: oh my god get it. What does she look like? What's she wearing?
C: no it's not like that.
N: what the hell do you mean it's not like that? It's always like that until you turn them down when they ask for something more.
C: no like. I don't know.
N: shit you're with a prep aren't you?
C: what?! No!
N: what the hell you are!
C: no I'm not!
N: which one of them is it?
C: it's not a prep.
N: if it is and you're lying you're dead.
C: oh wow I'm so scared Nash. Now what was so important.
N: I'm outside Lynn's house with the toilet paper... Remember?
C: wait. What.
N: we've been planning this for like two weeks. Did you forget?
C: look you got to get away from there.
N: what? No! I'm doing this with or without you... Wait... Oh shit! There's a guy in her bathroom. I'm laughing I wonder what sorry loser is at this bitches house.
C: haha yeah. It's probably like.. Uhh... One of those band nerds.
N: no kidding!
C: well bro look I uh have to uh go now.
N: you'll regret you weren't with me one day Mr Dallas!
C: haha doubt it Grier.
The phone hung up and my heart sank. She was going to hate me after this if I told her and if Nash found out I was at her house he would hate me. There was no winning.
"Everything alright?" She asked when I came out of the bathroom.
"Fine."
