So this also happened in eighth grade. (Wow Happy, where were you all the other years?) (Shut up.)
I was in my home room which was also my seventh hour (geometry). This isn't important though. What is important is that my band class was pretty much my geometry class. Band was sixth hour. So I was with the same group for a lot of the day. This meant they had time to get to know me, and me them.
There's this guy, who will be referred to as Lukas. For no other reason than I'm thinking about Miraculous Ladybug. Lukas was in my geometry, band and some other classes. He'd somehow noticed I was rather quiet and like to sit there and absorb the conversation or lesson.
I'd met Lukas the year before, in seventh grade and hadn't really interacted with him. The closest I ever got to him was when I 'dated' his best friend. I say 'dated' because it was middle school. We'd always kind of be grouped together since we were both brass instruments and the first letter of his last name is close to mine.
One day, during homeroom, out of nowhere he stood up and asked the teacher if he could present something. She said ok and he air played his MacBook. No one thought anything of it because Lukas was kind of spontaneous and do things like this occasionally. What no one expected was a whole slide show presentation, which clearly at least an hour went into it, about how I was a Russian spy.
How or when he'd come to this glaringly wrong accusation I have no idea. If I remember correctly it was about six slides long and had evidence. I was no longer Happy. I was Russian Spy.
Of course I retaliated. Who wouldn't? So I, being the slight overachiever I am, poured hours into a presentation about how he was the Russian spy. Mainly working on it during homeroom. I specifically remember this one time a guy sitting by me saw what I was doing and immediately snitched. He was taken down a peg when one of Lukas's friends told him it was just a joke and that they didn't have to stop me.
I mean it was a whole thing, the whole class knew and even the teacher got in on it. So I presented it and riled up the whole class at 8:30 in the morning. There was a shouting match between one of my friends and another guy. I'm surprised we didn't get a noise complaint from one of the neighboring teachers.
They still don't trust me.
(FBI I'm not a Russian spy I swear. Please don't arrest me.)
