This is it. I look at what everyone has lost because of Nate: a brother, a friend and most importantly, a life. Kale has become a nostalgic memory I don't want to forget or let go of. It's all so surreal and I still can't grasp that he is gone and not coming back. I need to do everything I can to stop Nate and his path of lethal destruction.
Nate pushes Chris and Beck flat to the floor while he and Paisley step on their backs. Beck and Chris flail their bonded bodies and wiggle around in an attempt to break free.
Nate seems amused by their antics. He bends down toward Beck so she can hear him loud and clear. "Are you ready to die just like your brother?"
Tears flood her eyes. "Fuck you! You could never be half the man my brother was you piece of shit!"
Nate yanks Beck's hair which pulls her head back toward him. "I'm going to enjoy watching you suffer, bitch." He brutally kicks Beck in her ribs causing her to groan in pain.
Paisley looks at Nate for the go ahead and tosses down the match to ignite the flame.
Nate watches as the flames begin to engulf the inside of the cabin. "Now I just need the perfect cover up." He looks at Paisley and smirks while lifting his gun up and aiming it at her. "I know you let Halston go with Kale. You fucked up!" Before Paisley even has a chance to respond, he shoots her in the forehead and her lifeless body drops to the floor immediately.
I feel frozen in fear of what Nate could do to me and the baby if I resist him and his plan. What wouldn't he do to me is the question? A repeat of the damage he has already done? I slip the bowie knife into my hand from my ankle and when Nate turns toward me, I have it held up against my stomach.
He holds his hand out. "You fucking wouldn't!"
"Call my bluff!" Tears trickle down my cheek bones as my hand becomes shaky.
"Stop! What do I need to do?"
"LET THEM GO!"
"You know I can't do that babe." Nate begins edging closer to me with his hand out. "Give me the knife."
I drop my hands by my sides and the knife to the floor in defeat. Nate comes up to me and wraps his arms around me as I bury my face into his shoulder. I can't bare to watch the terror in my friend's eyes as they suffer in these final moments.
The fury of the flames quickly consume the cabin walls and I can't see anything except for the dense smoke in the room. We are all coughing horribly as we try to get our last breath of air in as the smoke fills our lungs. I remain paralyzed as the realization of the situation entraps me in a trance. The verdict is in: Nate has won and I was never strong enough mentally or physically to overcome his ruthless seize on me. In these last moments I close my eyes and think of Beck, Chris and Kale all smiling and elated. I wish I had never brought any of them into this nightmare with me. Now Kale is dead because of me and soon Beck and Chris will be as well.
I hear a loud bang and scream in terror as I look down and see blood on my top. I am in no pain then look at Nate and see that he has been shot in the right shoulder. On the other side of Nate, I can vaguely make out a silhouette of a figure through the smolder. When I blink a few times and release the swell of tears from my eyes, I realize it's Kale! How can this be? Nate said he killed him!! Kale is hunching over while holding his Glock and bleeding profusely from his left leg due to what looks like a gunshot wound. I immediately run over to Kale as he pulls me behind him. Nate comes at Kale with full force as they wrestle to the clouded floor. I watch the two of them fighting when I see the blade of the bowie knife on the hardwood floor. I retrieve it immediately to set Beck and Christian free from their restraints so they can flee. I turn back to see Nate on top of Kale with the revolver pointed in Kale's face. I take the handle of the knife in both of my hands and pierce the blade into Nate's back as deep as I can. He immediately freezes then looks back at me with disappointment as he attempts to reach around and pull the knife out.
