Ch.38 - Overreacting
The secluded forest seemed calm from the outside, but in reality what lied within was the antithesis. The students who weren't part of the incident were whisked of for an early dinner, as an ambulance's sirens could be heard getting closer.
She tried ever so hard to not let her tears cascade from her eyes, but her emotions were running too high. She wasn't wailing, there wasn't any sound to her cries, but the clenched jaw, knitted eyebrows and red, puffy eyes were enough for anyone to tell that she was upset. Kendo, Tetsutetsu and Katsuki were still with her as Aizawa and the Pussy Cats were waiting with the poor girl.
Soon enough the ambulance did arrive, though the drivers did have an impractical journey trying to navigate the abundant forest. Even if a dislocation may not seem that serious, if not treated by a medical professional muscles, veins, nerves and bones could be damaged. So that was the reason an ambulance was called. Yes, all of the staff present were medically trained, but was it worth the risk? Especially on one of their top athletes who would be competing very soon, they thought not.
As due to protocol, at least one of the staff members had to accompany her; Aizawa being the one to do so. When Katsumi was in the ambulance, she was given some pain medication to help with the pain as well as the swelling. Aizawa just looked tired, but there was a hint of concern laced in his body posture. Katsumi had calmed down now that she wasn't in so much pain, but thoughts were one thing that couldn't be cured with medicine. Them constantly floating around her head, the 'what if's being the most prominent.
When a person is in a state of panic, their brains tend to think about the worst. In this case, Katsumi was think about nationals. The event was only 42 days, which is quite a long time, but was it long enough?
"What's your name honey?" A nurse said, she seemed the sweet kind. Katsumi had never been in an ambulance before, and was utterly confused as to why she didn't just ask Aizawa, yet the man in question was looking at her so Katsumi did have to at least say something.
"Saino Katsumi." Katsumi replied, just watching the nurses and doctors assess her ankle while she couldn't feel any of it.
"Okay hun, and when's your birthday?" The nurse continued. Katsumi got the idea now, they just wanted to know things about her and possibly make her calm down.
"October 31st." Katsumi said, her breath hitching when she felt a zap of pain in her ankle. The nurse treating her ankle immediately apologised and gave Katsumi more numbing medicine.
Considering this was her first time in an ambulance, it was mildly okay, more so after they gave her more medicine. They hadn't popped the joint back into place yet, most likely because the ankle has lots of nerves as well as muscle, and to add to this they would probably want to scan for any further injuries seeing as the halt from her intense speed was so sudden. That could've injured her muscle and sprained it as well as possible injure the bone.
On Katsumi's mom's side of the family, there were quite a few nurses and doctors; this meant that Katsumi always had this underlying fear that one of her relatives would see her if she ever got injured. As of now she was glad that none of her relative saw her, even if she did love them very much.
"You look nervous, is anything wrong." Aizawa asked Katsumi, truthfully, Katsumi was nervous of the consequeses of this, but the relatives being nurses was also something she was just waiting for at this point. Katsumi could tell that as the nurses in the back continued to somewhat treat her ankle, they were also listening.
"Well, I mean I have thought about nationals but also the fact that lots of my relatives work as nurses and doctors, I'm just wondering if I'll see them. And if I do, how much they're gonna beat my ass." Katsumi chuckled.
