(this is a take of malom's thoughts and his past...try not to cry....dont cry don't cry don't cry....enjoy this emotional sh*t)
When malom was born, there was nothing but grief in his mother's eyes
She hid it well, but as soon as she saw maloms blood red eyes and her black fur, she knew... He was a cursed wolf.
Red eyes meant bad luck
Black fur meant a spirit of death
Malom was both
As a child he was cast out and shunned by everyone he knew. The clear rejection made him ruthless, cruel, and mischievous.
He enjoyed causing others pain to reflect the pain he grew up knowing.
One day, when malom was only twelve, he met his first and only friend, Ronin.
Malom was hunting when he spotted Ronin attempting to catch a rabbit, only for the rabbit to hide in it's burrow, kicking dust at the beta.
Malom snickered at the epic fail, catching ronin's attention. Despite his personality, malom was a good looking dude, and his laugh, the good-natured humorous laugh and not a cruel maniacal laugh if you ever heard it, was enchanting.
"Hi" Ronin said with a gentle smile. "Sorry, Im not the best hunter"
"Clearly" malom said proudly, "of course you didn't catch him, you hesitate before you make an attack"
"Well, I always kinda feel bad for the rabbit, he just wants to live a peaceful life, and here I go trying to destroy it" Ronin admitted.
Malom sniffed the air, "you're a beta right?" He said "you smell like cinnamon"
Ronin nodded, "soooo... what's your name?"
Don't get attached, he'll only betray you
Malom shook off the voice of his inner alpha, "malom, you?"
"I'm Ronin, I'mma call you mal for short!"
Malom blushed slightly, "s-sure, can I call you Ro?"
"Of course!"
Malom did something he thought he would never get to do.... he smiled, a big childish award-winning smile.
Malom stepped towards Ronin and hugged the boy, rubbing his cheek on Ronin carefully, leaving his scent as a warning to others while also learning ronin's scent so he could find him later.
"There, if anyone messes with you, my scent should chase them off"
Ronin blushed, scenting was an act of promise. A claim stating that an alpha had an eye on you.
Mates usually did this when courting each other, or as a way of calming each other, but to an alpha such as malom, it was a big property stamp that labeled Ronin as malom's responsibility.
Ronin gave a small nod at malom's words.
Malom told Ronin to wait, then chased another rabbit, catching and killing it in one clean bite.
He brought the rabbit to Ronin, "here, so you don't go home empty handed"
Ronin was so thankful, that he tackled the alpha in a hug.
What malom didn't know was that Ronin was the runt of his brother and sisters, he was not a good hunter, fighter, or caretaker. Runts were born with many flaws in skill and prowess. In fact, they were lower than omegas because an omega could still hunt well and care for young pups, while runts remained the useless deadweight of the pack.
Malom pat Ronin on the head and carried on.
The second time they met was after a traumatic event for Ronin.
His mother had discovered the rabbit and accused Ronin of stealing it, since she knew he could never catch more than a squirrel or a field mouse. Ronin explained but his mother dragged him by the legs and dangled him over a cliff, threatening to drop him.
