Cold

chapter sixteen

George laid there on the bed, his soft silk sheets surrounding him to keep him warm. At that moment the ceiling looked very interesting. The smooth look of it made it seem like there was nothing wrong. George wasn't losing his best friend, he didn't have feeling for that friend, did he? There was no way he liked Dream. He hadn't even seen Dream's face before.

George knowing that Dream would never like him made matters even worse. He truly was losing his best friend. His friend he has known for years. What if Dream didn't want George... what if?

Water was suddenly flooding George's lungs. The salt burned his throat, scraping it into pieces. It felt as if his whole body was on fire. George felt the water tug at his body in all directions. His whole body was submerged in the cold liquid.

George opened his eyes, the salt burning just as much as before. But he kept them open, because up at the surface of the water stood a familiar face. Dream was looking down, just watching George as he drifted further and further down. George's heart burned, and not just from all the water.

Why was Dream just standing there, watching him? George tried to reach up to Dream, but he had no feeling of anything in his body. The cold made him go completely numb. Is that what Dream wanted? Did Dream not want George? What had happened between his two dreams?

George stopped fighting against the strength of the ocean. Slowly, Dream became more and more difficult to see, until George felt his back against a cold, rough, surface. The rocks scraped up his back, but George didn't care. If Dream didn't want him, what was the point of living? What would he even live for?

George closed his eyes and waited for it to come. Eventually he would run out of air. His body would collapse and he wouldn't be a bother to anyone at all. His family, his friends, and most of all Dream. George felt it coming and opened his mouth one more time.

"I love you Dream." he said.
