Three Weeks Later
Jay grabbed my legs and pulled me to the edge of the bed.
Lena: Jay! What are you doing?
Jay: Hopefully you.
We both laughed as he leaned down and kissed me. My phone started ringing. Jay looked at it and groaned.
Jay: It's your dad. Every time we're close to doing it, he calls!
He handed me my phone and I answered.
Lena: Yes, Dad?
Hank: Just making sure you're alright. You seemed a little out of it after your exam.
Yeah... About that exam. I hadn't re-enrolled into my courses. Dad assumed I did. So let's just go along with it for now and we'll cross that bridge when it comes up.
Lena: I'm fine, Dad. I promise.
Hank: Is Halstead with you? He said he was gonna check in on you on his way from the 21st.
Lena: Jay just got here, actually.
He raised an eyebrow at me.
Lena: Dad said you came to visit. That's sweet of you.
He pieced it together and played along.
Jay: No problem. You seemed bummed today so just wanted to cheer you up.
Dad chuckled into the phone.
Hank: I'll let you go so you can get rid of Jay and relax. Love you, kid.
Lena: Love you too Dad.
I hung up and laughed.
Lena: I think he knows we've been sneaking around.
Jay: Nah. He knows we've always been close.
Jay leaned closer, kissing down my neck slowly.
Lena: Jay, this isn't weird at all, right?
Jay: Why would it be weird?
Lena: My dad is your boss. You dated Erin.
Jay: It's only weird if we make it that way, baby.
Jay pulled the rest of our clothes off and settled between my legs. No phone call interrupted us. He held me close afterwards, kissing my forehead and cheek repeatedly.
Jay: I finally got Lena Voight into bed. Victory!
He laughed as I punched him.
Lena: Jerk!
Jay: C'mon, babe. Don't be like that. So, what now? We've been on dates like every night. We've had sex. What are we, Lena?
Lena: I don't know. What do you want us to be?
He shrugged.
Jay: A couple? You wanna be my girlfriend?
I smiled and nodded. But as I agreed, Rafael flashed into my mind. I ignored it, brushing it off as anxiety for when Dad finds out. Jay got dressed in patrol uniform for some overtime. And I was leaving as he got picked up by Erin in a squad car.
Erin: Get in, loser!
Jay kissed me and smiled.
Jay: I'll call you later, babe.
Lena: Be safe.
Erin: Ewww! Did he just call you babe?!
She laughed at me as Jay got into the squad car.
Lena: Shut up, Erin! Go to work!
I got into my car and they left. I went the opposite direction, going back home. Dad was sitting at the kitchen table. With Rafael and Matt. What the fresh fuckery is this?
Hank: Lena, Matt just shed some light on your closeness with Halstead. Sit. Now.
I sat and glared at Matt.
Casey: Kelly let it slip that you and Halstead are dating.
Lena: Jay and I just agreed to start dating this morning. We had just been spending time together. And who I'm with isn't any of your business, Matthew.
Hank: But it's mine. You know I don't allow interoffice romance. So kill it. Now.
Lena: Dad. It's not like I'm one of your officers or detectives. I'm just the analyst and secretary.
Hank: You heard me, Lena.
Lena: No. Not this time. When Severide asked me out before Matt, you told me no and I obeyed. Whenever anyone you deemed unworthy asked me out, I listened when you told me to say no or to end the relationship. I'm not listening now.
Casey: Just listen to him, Lena. Jay used to date Erin. You really want Erin's leftovers?
Lena: Matt, he told me to dump you when he found out about us! So since when do you take Dad's side?! I like Jay. He makes me laugh and we have fun and I deserve that after 3 years wasted with you and the clusterfuck with Rafael. Just let me be happy. Is that too much to ask for?
Dad looked at me stoicly. Matt, on the other hand, was clearly angry.
Hank: Fine. But the first sign of this affecting work, it's done. Copy?
Lena: I copy.
Hank: And I promise I won't say "I told you so".
Matt laughed.
Matt: I'll definitely say it. You should give us another chance.
Dad busted out laughing.
Hank: You fucking cheated on her with Antonio's sister! You're an idiot.
Matt stood up and walked out the house, slamming the door on the way out. Dad grabbed my hands and looked at me.
Hank: You're jumping into these relationships too fast, sweetheart. I think you're trying to fill a void that losing Matt made.
I looked down and sighed.
Lena: Maybe I am. But I want to see what could happen with Halstead. He's fun and good to me. If it burns out, it does. Let me just have fun for now.
He kissed my forehead and nodded.
Hank: Okay, kid. I trust your instincts.
Dad ordered dinner for us. Italian takeout. We are and watched the Blackhawks game together. And then someone came through the door. Jay peeked around the corner, smiling as he came into the living room with a box.
Jay: I come baring cheesecake!
Hank: Halstead. Thanks for coming.
Lena: You called him?
Jay: Texted. Figured the dessert would be a good peace offering.
Dad took the box from him and opened it. Chocolate chip cheesecake with caramel and chocolate drizzle. Dad's favorite.
Hank: Good choice. Sit down, I'll go get some plates and a knife.
Jay sat next to me as Dad went to the kitchen. Jay kisses my lips softly and then smiled.
Jay: So, he didn't flip out? Erin told me Matt was here and spilled the beans.
Lena: He did but we talked it out. It's all good.
I cuddled into Jay's arms and sighed happily. Dad came back with the plates and knife then started slicing the cheesecake. We kept watching the hockey game and eating. It was nice having my dad and boyfriend being civil from the get-go. They were arguing over the game as I fell asleep on Jay's shoulder.
