"Who are you?"

The boy in front of me looks up.

The first thing I notice about him is his hair.

It's bright and orange, like a tangerine. His skin is pale, and his eyes are big and brown. He's skinny, but his cheeks are chubby. His nose is small, pointed, just like his chin.

I'm assuming he's new. Still, he's too little to be a first-year. But I'm guessing he's looking to join the club. I mean, if he knew about it, he must be in high school.

I only know this because he's sitting on the floor, right in front of the door to the music room.

I joined the music club this time last year.

Karasuno High is mostly known because of its school band. It's a rare thing to be known for, but years back, a small group of teenagers formed the club themselves and somehow became famous. Even now, they're widely known as "The Crows". The school itself isn't exactly famous. Actually, it's not even popular. But it's the reason why I applied to this school.

I was disappointed at first. Not because of the members, though. They taught me a lot about music.

I was more upset that I couldn't play in the band. Usually, the third-years are the ones in charge. The first-years mostly watch and learn from the third-years.

But the second-years are the ones who get to play onstage.

The first-year doesn't respond at first. But he notices the guitar on my back and stands, shooting up like a cannon. It startles me, but I don't let it show.

"I'm Hinata Shoyo. I'm a second-year."

A second-year?!

He definitely doesn't look it. In fact, now that he's standing, I notice how short he is. I have at least twenty centimeters on him.

"I'm Kageyama. T-Tobio. Second-year."

Shit. That came out weird.

HINATA

This guy looks angry.

At me, at the door I'm standing in front of, I don't know.

He tells me his name awkwardly, and I laugh, but it makes him angrier.

We both pause, only for a moment. Then he moves closer towards me.

"What do you want? What are you doing here?"

His stare is slightly intimidating, but I don't look away. I think it's because of his eyes. They're a deep blue, slanted, and he squints them as he looks down at me. He's looking at me like I'm a bug.

He looks scary.

His hair is dark and messy, his skin is an olive tone. His shoulders are broad. And he's tall. REALLY tall.

While I look at him, I almost forget why I'm here.

"Oh! Right!"

Even though I've been at this school for a year now, I only recently decided to join the music club.

I applied here because it was closest to where my mom lives. She starts work early in the morning, so I needed to go somewhere I could bike to. This place was closest.

Karasuno isn't a prestigious school or anything. For me, that's actually better. I wouldn't have gotten into a high-status school because of my grades.

Last year, needing to participate in a club, I joined one for cooking thinking it would be pretty fun.

It wasn't. In fact, it was a disaster. At least now I know never to cook again.

So this year, not knowing what to do, I decided to give the music club a try. When I researched the school a while ago, I heard that The Crows started here, so that's actually pretty cool.

That's why I was out here, in front of the music room. I hope they'll let me join!

...

"So, actually I-"

I stop when Kageyama turns around. That's when I see Tsukishima and Yamaguchi walking towards us.

Oh...

I forgot they were in this club!

Unlike Kageyama, I met them in my first year. They were in my English class.

"Hinata-Kun!" Yamaguchi smiles when he notices me.

"Hi, Yamaguchi! Tsukishima!"

Tsukishima nods. "Hey, shrimp."

I glare at him. "Rude..."

Yamaguchi interrupts before Tsukishima can say anything else. I notice them holding hands, which isn't weird for Yamaguchi, but it is for Tsukishima. They must be dating.

"What brings you here?"

I still haven't told anyone I was interested in joining the club, mostly because I'm not sure if I'm even allowed to. But the music room is pretty far away from everything else in the school, so it's obvious that I was trying to get inside.

I scratch my head. "Actually I wanted to-"

"The gang's all here!"

Who is it now?

I see two guys walk towards us, grinning. One of them is about my height, with brown hair that has one golden streak in the front. The one who just spoke is almost as tall as Kageyama, with a buzz cut.

"Ah, who's this?" The shorter dude puts his arm on my shoulder.

"Nice to meet you! I'm-"

"Let's save the introductions for when we get inside."

The one with the shaved head pushes past everyone, slinging a key around his finger. He uses that key to open the door to the club room.

...

"Woah!"

I can't contain my excitement.

I hear the door close behind me while I look around. I've definitely never been in here before.

The floor is hardwood, sleek and shiny, and the walls look like they've been freshly painted. On those walls, there are photographs, and in the corner, there's a large shelf that's stacked with trophies and awards.

The room itself is small, but what makes up for it are the piles of music equipment: A bunch of amps, a keyboard, a couple of guitars, a large drum set, and a mic that sits right in the center of the room. There are plenty of other items, though I'm not really sure what they are.

I walk to one picture in the room. It takes up a large portion of the wall.

It looks like a band playing. In the corner, there's small writing that reads: "The Crows - 2007".

"So cool..."

In the picture, there are five people who look only slightly older than me. Four of them are guys, each playing guitars or singing, but there's one girl on the drum set.

"Tanaka Saeko." I turn around to see the guy with the shaved head staring at the picture.

"Huh?"

He points to the girl. "Her."

I look back at the photo. "She looks awesome."

He grins. "I know, right? That's my sister."

I let out a gasp. "Really?!"

With the same smug grin, he looks at me and crosses his arms. "I'm Ryunosuke Tanaka. You can call me Tanaka-Senpai. Noya and I are both third-years."

Nishinoya runs up from behind him, then he shakes my hand. "I'm Nishinoya. Yu Nishinoya."

I immediately greet them back.

"It's really nice to meet you! Tanaka-Senpai. Nishinoya-Senpai. I'm Hinata Shoyo."
