KAGEYAMA
"Uhh, T-Thanks, Miss Hinata..." I speak into the open window of her car.
I'm about to catch up with Hinata, who is currently making his way to the school's front doors, but his mom leans over in my direction. She speaks to me in a hushed tone for the second time this morning.
"I told you!"
She chuckles and drives away before I can say another word.
"Hinata! Wait up, you dumbass!"
We walk into the building, Hinata walking at a pace that should be far too quick for his short legs to handle, and even I struggle to keep up with.
"Follow me," He says, and I'm still far too bewildered by recent events to say anything in response.
He goes up one flight of stairs and another.
Wait...
Are we going to the band room?
I continue to follow him.
We reach the door to the clubroom and Hinata tries to open the door, but it's locked.
...Right.
Moments pass as Hinata and I both stand there together in complete silence.
This is the exact spot where I told him...all of that...bullshit.
Suddenly, Hinata turns away from the door to face me.
"Listen, Kageyama."
I nod, slightly anxious. He pauses, swallowing, then starts to speak again.
"I tried really hard not to forgive you. Really, really hard. But then you came to my house and it was dark out and I felt bad because you looked cold and lost and sad and I thought that maybe we could try being friends again because I know that you're sorry, that you're really sorry and you regret what you did and what you said and so I--"
I put my hand on his head in an attempt to stop him.
It works, but I can't help but feel slightly embarrassed about the method.
He and I stare at one another for what seems like hours.
His hair is soft.
...
I remove my hand, my face feeling hot.
"...We're friends?"
His cheeks grow red as he recalls his outburst from just moments ago.
"...Sure."
Then he turns away from me, trying to hide his smile, but I still catch it.
It's okay.
I'm smiling, too.
"So why are we sitting here?"
I look over at Hinata, who gently fiddles with the strap of the guitar case. We've been in front of the door to the music room for nearly 30 minutes, currently missing the third, no, the fourth period, and neither one of us has said a word until just now.
"And are you ever gonna tell me what the hell you are doing with a guitar?"
He starts to speak, not removing his gaze from the case resting in his lap.
"It...was my father's."
I look down at the guitar. I can't tell what it looks like since it's covered, but I wonder to myself if it's acoustic, or whether or not it is even playable.
