*Jachary*
It was the last concert of the summer and the Why Don't We boys were ready to have a break. They were in the back room packing as they talked about their trip to their old California beach house. They were so tired however, they ended up asleep on the couch as soon as they arrived. Jack sat up and noticed Zach on his phone. "Babe, wanna go to the beach? I'm in the mood for surfing."
Zach nodded and stood up. "Let's go."
Jack grabbed his surfboard, followed by Zach and they walked to the beach. "What do you think of having a meet and greet with the fans again? Not now, but at some point."
Zach smiled. "Definitely. Those are so fun. Especially on live and zoom."
The couple got on their surfboards and began heading to the deeper areas. "Big wave coming."
They stood up and went through it. "Awesome," Jack laughed, running a hand through his wet brown hair.
Zach nodded. "Here comes another one."
The boys spent several minutes messing around. It was exactly what they needed after a long time of tours and writing music. "I wonder what it's like to be in the audience. We only see it from the stage."
Zach raised an eyebrow. "Ask the fans."
"That'll be my first question," Jack said.
A huge wave came and before the boys were ready and crashed over them. Zach shook his hair out of his eyes. "That was insane."
There was no response and Zach looked around. Jack's green surfboard was floating around but Jack was nowhere to be found. "Jack!!" Zach screamed. "Jack, where are you?"
Jack's head was pounding and he couldn't seem to break the surface. Though he couldn't think clearly, he was still imagining a shark getting him from such a vulnerable place. He tried to swim but he was in shock so he couldn't. He tried to inhale but that just made water enter his lungs. Red liquid was mixing with the water and he realized he was bleeding. With thst, the world went black.
Zach jumped into the water and swam around til he caught a glimpse of Jack. He grabbed the boy by the waist and pulled him onto the surfboard that hadn't floated away.
He pulled Jack off the surfboard. "Someone call an ambulance l. He's not breathing."
Corbyn and the rest of the boys were walking along the beach when they noticed Zach kneeling over Jack. They ran over in a panic. "What happened?"
"He almost drowned. He's not breathing," Zach replied before giving another rescue breath. "He has a cut on the back of his head."
"What exactly caused it?" Daniel asked.
"A big wave came unexpectedly and he must've been knocked off. I turned and he was gone," Zach stammered.
Sirens sounded as the ambulances got closer. Soon, several medics appeared with equipment. The older man continued CPR until finally Jack's chest began to rise and fall a little. Jack barely opened as he muttered something incoherent. "Name?" The youngest medic asked.
"Jack Avery," Jonah replied.
The other medic nodded. "Jack, can you hear us?" He asked as he put an oxygen mask over the boy.
Jack didn't respond, which answered the question. They lifted Jack onto the stretcher. "We'll be heading to LA General."
The boys nodded as they gathered their things. They headed back to the house to get the car keys. Zach began to cry and Corbyn hugged him. "Don't worry. He's gonna be fine."
"Its all gonna be fine," Daniel said stroking Zach's hair.
"Stay with me," the medic was pleading. "Stay awake."
Jack could barely keep his eyes open. He was trying to stay awake like he was told but eventually he gave in and closed his eyes.
The ambulance pulled into the hospital and Jack was rushed to the ER. A doctor ran in as he pulled on gloves. "Name?"
"Jack Avery. 21 year old male. Nearly drowned. Possible concussion. Laceration on the back of his head, possibly from a surfboard," the medic explained.
"Fifth drowning patient this week," the doctor sighed as he checked Jack's pulse. "On my count move him to the other stretcher."
Jack was moved and the doctor nodded. He opened Jack's eyes and sighed. "Definite concussion. Let's get a CAT scan to check for any fracture."
After the CAT scan they began checking Jack's lungs. The doctor shook his head. "We really need him to be conscious so we can know some things."
"Sir, he's awake but unresponsive," a nurse announced. "His eyes respond to light but it doesn't seem he can move or speak.'
"Mr. Avery, can you hear us?" The doctor asked.
Jack blinked slowly but it wasn't guaranteed as a response. His eyes rolled up in his head and the heart monitor began to flat line. The doctors quickly jumped into action. "I need a ventilator and a defibrillator right away."
Another doctor began to review the x rays to see what they could've missed. "We need to drain his lungs. We missed the left one with a lot of water."
The first doctor nodded as he turned on the defibrillator. "One... two... three... clear!"
This went on for several minutes before the heart monitor began beeping again.
Jonah paced the waiting room, followed by Zach. The others had gone to get coffee in the cafeteria. A doctor walked out. "He's not conscious but he'll be okay. We did have a moment when we thought we lost him. He should be fine now. You can go see him."
I hope you enjoyed this part. Should I do part two of him getting home? Happy New Year all of you🥂 love you guys and stay safe ♥️
