Jack grabbed his hoodie and ran out the door. "Zach come on. We're picking up Jonah and Corbyn."
"I'm picking up Dani. Just give me the directions to the hiking area and I'll go pick him up," Zach replied as he tossed his bag into a rented Jeep.
Jack typed the directions into Zach's phone. "Alright. See you there."
Jonah and Corbyn sat in their living room talking about the next tour when Jack walked in. "I'm here!"
"Hey Jack. You want some left over Chick-fil-A? Jonah and I ordered too much," Corbyn sighed as he carried his bag out to the car.
Jack went into the kitchen and pulled the food out of the fridge. "Hey can I have this Gatorade?"
"Which one?" Jonah asked.
"Blue?" Jack replied.
"Yeah. Corbyn doesn't want it anymore."
Zach's car pulled into Daniel's driveway and Daniel grinned. "Hey Z. You're on time."
Zach rolled his eyes. "Just get in here."
The group met at the beginning of the trail and began getting the essentials out of their bags. After finding everything they would need and putting it into Zach's bag, they began the hike.
"How much time do we have?" Corbyn asked.
"As long as we want. We have no obligations today," Jonah replied climbing over a fallen tree.
After a few hours they stopped for lunch. While they are Corbyn got up and went to check out where the sound of water was coming from. As he walked he spotted a waterfall and smiled. "Guys!! There's a waterfall."
"We'll be there in a minute Corbyn!" Daniel yelled as he began helping pack up their things. When they were done they found Corbyn tossing rocks into the water. "Oh wow. It's beautiful." Jonah said in awe.
"Very," Daniel replied.
The boys continued walking when Jack and Corbyn stepped on some loose rocks. "Oh shit!" Jonah gasped as everything seemed to move in slow motion.
Jack fell and Daniel grabbed him while Jonah reached for Corbyn. He wasn't fast enough and Corbyn slipped off the drop off. "No no no no no!" Zach gasped quickly making his way down the drop off. "Corbyn. Can you hear me?"
"My back. It hurts so bad..." Corbyn moaned.
Zach rolled Corbyn over and saw his shirt covered in blood. "Okay we have to get you back to the car. Or at least the trail."
Corbyn nodded weakly as Zach helped him up. "My leg... oh my gosh."
"I got you," Zach said gently as he led Corbyn to the top.
They didn't even make it to the trail before Corbyn collapsed. "Please Corbyn we have to get to the car," Zach begged.
"I can't move. I can't even feel past my waist," Corbyn mumbled.
Zach gently pulled Corbyn's shirt off to get a better look at the wound on his back. "Oh crap. Dani I can literally see part of his spine."
"Yes, he fell off a small cliff. He said he can't feel past his waist and there are several bad wounds," Jack was saying into the phone.
A bloodstain was forming on Corbyn's jeans and Jonah quickly unfastened them to see an open wound from his thigh to his knee. Corbyn's eyes rolled up in his head and he went limp.
"Bean? Wake up! Corbyn wake up right now," Daniel pleaded.
No one wanted to move or even touch him, fearing they would worsen his injuries. After what felt like hours, an ambulance appeared on the trail and a few medics jumped out. "This is where he fell?" The oldest medic asked.
"No. He fell off that drop off. He managed to walk up here but collapsed saying he couldn't feel his waist," Jonah replied.
The male medic looked at the wound on Corbyn's back. "How did he do that? He has a fracture right on his spine."
Jack shook his head. "He stood up and got up here. I don't know how."
"Incredible," the youngest medic said as he put the oxygen mask over Corbyn's face. "Name and age?"
"Corbyn Besson. Twenty," Zach replied.
"Alright get him in the ambulance. He's going into shock. We need to get him help immediately," the male medic said, stabilizing Corbyn's neck.
They arrived at the hospital several minutes later and Corbyn was rushed into accident and emergency. A doctor ran in and got Corbyn's information. "Extensive damage to his back. We need stitches for his leg wound. Let's get a CAT scan just to eliminate a skull fracture."
The boys were pacing the waiting room when a doctor walked out. "Corbyn's tests took a while but the extent of his injuries are not good. He's got a spinal fracture which had made him paralyzed. Most likely temporary. He just got out of surgery."
"Please let me see him," Zach pleaded.
The boys raced down the hall before he doctor finished his sentence. They entered Corbyn's room and surrounded the bed. "Bean, how do you feel?"
Corbyn looked sleepily at his bandmates. "Everything hurts."
Zach hugged Corbyn. "I was so scared. You'll be sore for a while."
Corbyn tried to sit up and his eyes widened. "I can't move. Z I can't move," Corbyn stammered as he began to panic. "What do I do?"
Zach held Corbyn close. "I know. It's supposed to be temporary. You'll be in a wheelchair for a while."
Corbyn gave a small pout. "Just temporary?"
"Yes Corbs. Just temporary," Zach said glancing awkwardly at the other boys.
"Yes! For sure," the boys said in unison.
