He was just your regular guy. Brown hair, red shirt, blue jeans, nineteen, a paper boy. But somehow he accidentally found adventure.

It was a typical morning for Liam Smith. Early, boring weather, same houses, weird lady who catches his papers- normal; just how he liked it. He liked the weather. He liked his neighborhood. And he liked his paper route. Never wanted anything different. It suited him.

But even though he liked things to be normal, a small part of him enjoyed throwing the newspaper to Annalise Guthrie every morning. Watching her catch the paper each time was different. But not too different. Since he threw one every morning, it had become a part of his regular routine. Liam found Annalise fascinating. She wasn't afraid to be different. Or strange. Sometimes, there was a part of Liam that wished he could be like that too.

A very, very small part of him. Very small.

This morning, Annalise was waiting on the steps for him, as usual. She wore a strange outfit, as usual. He smiled and didn't wave, as usual. Everything was as it usually was.

Liam threw his paper to Annalise and continued his paper route. He was always a little happier when he reached her house; it meant he only had a few more houses left.

He tossed a paper to his right. Then to his left. Another to the right. Another to the- oh wait. Not that house. No one lives there. He kept on riding and throwing papers.

Finally, Liam reached the end of his route and turned his bike around. Now he was headed home.

He pedaled hard and fast. With the wind behind him, it made him feel faster. He pedaled even harder.

Then he stopped.

Annalise Guthrie was entering the ghost house. Well, he didn't think that there were any ghosts in there, but that's what everyone called it. Annalise disappeared behind the front door.

Liam began to pedal again and he passed the rundown house. If that strange lady wanted to go into a spooky house by herself, get kidnapped by ghosts and roasted over a fire, then that was fine by Liam. It wasn't any of his business. He wasn't about to go inside the house himself and tell her otherwise.

Liam groaned and turned around.
