There were two options for them to take:

1. Run away.

2. Fight

Although Annalise wanted to run away, she knew that this was important to Phin. This is what Phin had been working towards for years. She wasn't about to give that up in the face of the enemy.

It was time to fight. Even though all the fight was gone in Annalise.

Two dangerous looking men stood on either side of The Collector. A few others were scattered around the construction site, waiting. She took a closer look at the men standing in front of her.

Reed.

The face that clouded her thoughts.

She wanted out of here.

No more pain.

Just peace.

Annalise looked to her right and watched as Phin, Liam, and Noah approached the enemy. She took a deep breath and followed.

Phin stood only a few feet from The Collector.

"Christopher."

"Persephone."

"I believe that you are searching for something that belongs to me."

"That's where you are wrong. I'm not searching for anything. I know exactly where it is."

Phin widened her eyes while Liam glared.

They must have found it.

There wasn't much time.

Annalise made eye contact with Phin. Phin gave one last soft smile.

She knew exactly what to do.

Apparently, Liam did as well.

Liam grabbed the shovel from Noah's hands and charged at the three men before us. The first one he swung at was Reed.

Thanks, Liam.

As Noah ran towards the dangerous men, Phin tried to follow Annalise past the danger. Unfortunately, she didn't make it far and was stopped by The Collector's arms. He grabbed her and called for his other men to help "clean up the mess."

Of course, Phin was no weakling and she squirmed out of his hold. But not soon enough. Three more men came from nowhere and surrounded Liam and Phin.

"Noah!" Phin gasped. "Take Annalise and go!"

Noah raced over to Annalise's side and pulled her past the scene.

"We need to get the item. Then we will fight."

Annalise shakily nodded and ran with Noah around the old playground.

Nothing was intact. Nothing was standing. She could see the remnants of a seesaw wedged into the ground. The once-was yellow slide had long cracks running down the sides. The miniature rock wall had no rocks on it. The only thing left standing was the swing set. Just like Phin had told them.

Annalise wished that she had snatched the shovel from Liam before they ran off. She realized too late the mistake they made. They would have nothing to use to dig up the item.

Once Noah and Annalise were a few feet away from the swing set, they both stopped, dead in their tracks. A man stood beneath the swings.

Nothing could have prepared them for what they saw.

They didn't need to have a shovel, because there was already a shovel there.

They didn't need to use a shovel to dig, because there was already a hole under the swings.

They didn't need to dig up the item, because the item, was already dug up.

And the item was resting in Noah's hands.
