When I tell you I have never ran faster in my life, I have never ran faster in my life. One of the last things I wanted to do was talk to Jace. As soon as I got to the kitchens, I sat down at a counter with a barstool and politely asked a house elf, Penny, for some lime soda. As soon as she came back with the soda, I thanked her and took a sip to try and calm myself down. I just needed some alone time.
"Hey, Abbey," I look to my side and see Cedric Diggory sitting next to me. I immediately look away, avoiding eye contact. So much for some alone time. A different house elf comes to tend to Cedric.
"Oh... Anything for you friend Mister Diggory?" She squeaks.
"He's not with me," I say immediately.
"I'd like a vanilla shake, thanks," Cedric says instead.
"Sure!" the little house elf hops away, leaving us in an awkward silence.
"So what are you doing here?" I ask quickly, still avoiding eye contact.
"What do you mean?" He responds casually. "I'm just here here to take down one of those vanilla shakes."
"Cool..."
"Actually, I stopped by your common room and your sister said you'd probably be here. Look, I just wanna be super clear..." I shift so I'm actually making eye contact with him now.
"Okay,"
"Okay, I'm flattered, I really am but... Tiff and I, like, just broke up so..." I blink at him a few times trying to process what he's trying to say.
"Are you trying to reject me right now?" I ask, slightly amused. I personally think it's funny that I'd try to go after him now, especially with my past with Tiff.
"Yeah... 'cause you know it didn't really seem like it took back the first time-" He says motioning to the back with his hands. I raise my eyebrows at the Hufflepuff.
"Cedric Diggory, I'm not trying to date you," I am actually really trying to avoid you at all possible costs.
"Yeah, but your mouth is saying something, but your mouth said something completely different," He explains.
"What?" I ask, very confused. Just then, the house elf comes back with his shake.
"Thank you, uh... Joey." So that's her name. Joey gives a quick nod and prances away.
"Okay, um... So here's the thing," I begin to explain as he sips his shake. "I don't actually like you. I just had to make it look like I liked you so someone else wouldn't think I liked them." I wasn't lying. I tried to sound convincing but it ended up sounding like I was making it up because of my rambling, shaky voice.
"Oh, okay." Oh, good. He believed me. "Okay, who?" Shit.
"What?"
"Who? You gotta tell me who this mystery bloke is, otherwise I'm gonna go on believing that you have a secret shrine of my things in your dorm." Ew, that seems like something Tiff would do, honestly.
"No," I say simply, rapidly shaking my head. There's no way in hell that I'd expose myself like that to Cedric Diggory.
"Okay, so should I tell the entire school that you wrote me a love letter then? Or-" He responds.
"Okay, okay! Fine, um..." I guess I am exposing myself to Cedric Diggory. "It's J- Jace Stevenson..." I confess, awkwardly.
"Wait, hold on, Stevenson? Doesn't that guy date your sister?" He knows more than I thought.
