Year 849
Age 13
(3rd person P.O.V)
The Cadet corps though grueling had a few unsung perks. One of the perks was that they often traveled to different environments for training, leaving the cadets in exotic cites and villages and after they were done training they would be allowed to spend some free time around the area for a couple of days.
Y/n was ecstatic when he found out Kate was assigned to his training group, it was nice someone he knew would go with him for a change, but the ultimate cherry on top was they'd be headed close to Cholrba, Nora's home.
Y/n and Kate wrote constantly to Nora and she'd always end her letters saying if they were ever around to stop over anytime.
After training was done for the week and after Y/n's constant talk and excitement of finally seeing Nora and the house, as well as Kate's death threats if he teases her about anything embarrassing her mother might say, the two got leave to go and visit.
When Nora had told him she lived in Cholrba, he expected them to live in the actual city. What he didn't expect was Kate to lead him outside the city and up into the mountains.
The sun was getting low and the trail killed Y/n, it was all uphill and the air's thinner than what he's used to, much to his jealousy, Kate had no issues having done this countless times. After a very tiring walk a large house on the mountainside came into sight. It completely exceeded Y/n's expectations. It wasn't a mansion but it had to be the next best thing.
"Kate?!" Huffed Y/n placing his hands on his knees. "This is your house?!" He pointed at the large structure.
"Yuuup. This is my humble abode." Replied Kate, slightly drawing out her words. "This is what happens when your dad's a doctor and your mom's a nurse." She informed.
Y/n could still see the city and it admittedly felt cool to be over it. The house was close to the mountain ledge and overlooked the woods facing towards the west with a beautiful view of the sunset. It had many large glass windows in the front to see the sunset from the inside. This is quite possibly the best house Y/n had seen.
They walked up the concrete walkway and climbed the three stairs to the door, which had a nice little welcome mat and a ton few beautiful flowers on each side of the door.
Kate knocked on the door and after waiting a few moments with no answer knocked again. This time raising her voice in hopes to get the attention of whomever might be home. "Helllllo!? Mom it's me! Your daughter! Oh and not to scare you but some ugly possum followed me home!"
"Hey!" Complained Y/n not appreciating the sudden jab.
"Hmmm." Sighed Kate before turning to Y/n. "Say, what time is it?"
"I don't know. 7 o'clock?" He gave his best estimate after looking at the low sun.
Kate facepalmed clearly remembering something. "Oh shit that's right, mom works till eight on Fridays."
"So we're going to freeze up here for next hour?" Asked Y/n, not in a sarcastic or annoyed way but in genuinely curious/concerned way, placing his hands on each arm having not being adjusted to the colder mountain air.
"Nah. As much as I'd love to see you freeze your ass off..." Kate knelt and lifted up the right corner of the welcome mat, picking up the key under it. "...I'd like to do it while I'm nice, cozy, and indoors."
Seeing no practicality in the key under the mat trick, Y/n felt obligated to voice his concerns about the possibility of their house being robbed. "Isn't that a little obvious?" He asked with a questioning look.
