Certain people are naturally in tune with the realm beyond the physical one. Some call it the fourth dimension or the astral plane. It is this ability that is responsible for the outstanding creativity, ingenuity, and innovations seen in this world. Those with this ability can somehow tap into this fourth dimension and bring creativity and innovations into the third dimension. This class of people possess what is called 'Light' in their inner being, which is a powerful force, apart from creativity it brings forth love, faith, hope, wisdom, and willpower.
The Light can be corrupted and has been. These are the Aje. The Aje is an ancient cult with only one agenda to inflict fear through pain, sickness, poverty, misery, and death. They are never for good, and that is because the one behind them is pure evil. An evil, powerful and deceptive in its ways. In the beginning, this diabolic force interacted with those who were awakened to the astral dimension but not just anyone. It chose those who craved power, who were greedy, those who delighted in mischief and wickedness. These were the pioneers. From then on, it was easy to get more people to be involved in this occultic practice because sensitivity to the astral plane runs in families. Therefore, it's passed down from generation to generation.
Every human is born with both good and bad sides. The good side is kindness, patience, self-control, contentment, love, etc. While the bad side includes anger, jealousy, envy, resentment and bitterness, cruelty, etc. When one becomes Aje, he/she is driven to all kinds of wickedness that breeds fear in others. When an act of evil is done it generates dark energy and fear itself generates dark energy. Good people can generate dark energy by being afraid. The infernal being behind the Aje feeds off dark energy. Of course, the Aje do not know what is behind their powers and they don't care. This evil feeds them something called "the flesh" and it causes the evil side of humans to grow and become dominant and so darkness grows and Light quenches. They gradually lose empathy, making it easy to inflict all sorts of torture or torments to anyone with no feeling of remorse.
There are Aje in every tribe in Africa, and many haven't stopped the old practices. Even with the presence of Christianity and Islam, people have a strong belief in the powers of the Aje and fear them. If people stop believing in them, they would no longer be powerful and the force behind them will no longer influence them in this way. It would adapt and find other ways to breed evil and fear.
When a child is about seven/eight years old, a family member usually a parent would initiate the child into the Aje group by feeding the child the flesh. This could be in a dream or in added in food to be eating while wide awake. Children can initiate other children who are not relations, but adults can't do this. When the child eats this thing, the child would fall severely sick, and in most cases, the children die. The ones that died are sacrifice. Children that survive this traumatic event are awakened to be sensitive to the astral plane. They can travel in the astral plane, leaving their bodies behind. Children have a group with no adults, so they see it as fun because all they do is play but most importantly are fed the flesh. It is at this stage that they start to change, a once good child suddenly becomes mean and disobedient. Older children (not necessarily in terms of age) teach the younger ones how to inflict pain, sickness, or harm on someone, which is most cases is the parents who are not members, classmates, guardian, or anyone who offends them.
Then by age ten, it all stops. The child no longer goes for meetings and completely forgets they have had such ability, however the seed of the flesh has been sown. The child is allowed to grow to adulthood so that the child can now be accountable for the choices made. They keep track of all the children that were initiated, allowing them to get married, a secure career, have children until it's time to be awakened into the fold. First, they get their attention by causing them a lot of problems. Remember, these are people closest to them, a mother, sister, father. It is only natural to confide in them. It is then they would start trying to persuade the person to join the group or to eat the flesh and once that happens the person is reawakened and this time a choice has been made, this time they are no longer underage. Failure to join would mean constant torture and torments and when can't get the adults, they go for the children, after all, they are still related.
