Driving away from the house I suddenly find myself torn. Not torn between whether I should stay or if I should go, but whether I should go to one of the big hotels in the city or just go find a small motel on the outskirts. The big hotels have a certain discreteness, kind of like a rule between the staff that no matter who is staying there they will not disclose it to anybody.
But also being in the city means it's easy access for paparazzi, so if they do find out I'm staying there I know it won't be a pleasant one.
Now with the motels it's further away, I can imagine the young woman that's probably working behind the counter would have nothing to lose if somebody was to ask her anything about my movement whilst I was staying there.
But then again, thinking about it I'm not going on vacation, I have officially left my marriage and I am going to need somewhere to stay more permanently. I suppose I could call Joe and ask him to find me a little apartment for the time being or maybe an Airbnb.
So that is exactly what I do. I pull over to the side of the road and send Joe a quick message. He didn't need any explanation as to why I was looking for somewhere to stay, he knew that this would be coming eventually.
After about 30 minutes of just driving around waiting for him to tell me where to go, I received a message that he had gotten me a house just on the outskirts in a small little suburb, at least it will be quiet.
Once I finally reached my destination, a smile spread across my lips as I drove down the street that I will be calling home for the next however many days/months/years. It was like a perfect little neighbourhood, the sun was starting to set but the children were still out playing on the streets as if crime didn't exist in this area. Like driving onto the set of a movie. With a murderous clown lurking in the sewer...
Pulling into the driveway I shut off the engine and looked up at the house, it was small and quaint but cute at the same time, just enough for a lonely single girl.
Once I had struggled to drag my suitcase out of the trunk, I walked up to the front door and keyed in the code on the pad that Joe had told me about, pushing the door open to reveal the sweetest little home I had ever seen.
Searching in my bag for my phone, I dialled Joe's number and waited patiently for him to answer whilst I searched the bottom floor of the house, not failing to notice that the owner seems to really like flowers as they are everywhere. Fresh ones, fake ones, even flowers on the walls. The kind of flowers you would expect your grandmother to have everywhere in her country cottage, not here in LA.
"Hey doll. Did you find the place okay?" I hear Joe ask as soon as he picks up, my apparent new nickname making me giggle.
"Yep." I nod. "It's cute but how did you even find this place on such short notice?"
"Oh honey, I had this place on standby from the moment we had that conversation in your hotel room in Milan. You know, the time when Jungkook was hiding under your bed."
"What?!?" I choke out. "Jungkook wasn't hiding under my bed." I laugh nervously, picking at the petals of one of the flowers that is within my reach.
"Sure... and I'm the straightest man that ever lived." He responds in a mocking tone. "Either way, I've gotten everything set up for you. There's food in the fridge and clothes in the closet, your neighbor Meredith is a nosey old bitch and we will discuss my raise later."
"Thank you Joe." I whisper, remembering why I hired this man in the first place. Yes he's cut throat, but when you're in need, he's always the first one to show up.
"Thank me with cash. Call me if you need anything. Ciao bella."
After my call with Joe, I searched the rest of the house finding everything easily. The country style kitchen made me excited to cook my first meal and the bedroom with the beautiful four poster bed made me excited for my first night alone.
Alone...
Frowning to myself as I think of how my life has panned out, my frown quickly turns into a smile when I feel my phone start to vibrate in my pocket.
"Hey Kookie." I sigh, taking a look round the living room before flopping down on the sofa.
"Angel, did you find somewhere to stay?"
"Yeah. Well actually, Joe had apparently already gotten me a place knowing that this day would eventually come."
"That's good of him, maybe you should give him a raise." He chuckles.
"You two should hang out together, I have a feeling you will get on like a house on fire." I frown, remembering Joe's same words.
"Why's that?"
"No reason." I grin. "Did you find somewhere to go?"
"Yeah, I'm at a hotel for now. Hey uh... can I come and see you? Only if you want me to of course. If you don't feel up to having company I completely understand."
"You can come over. It's not like I have any other major plans today, leaving my husband was enough." I laugh, suddenly feeling mentally exhausted.
"It has been quite a day hasn't it." He chuckles before falling silent. "Angel... you know if I come over there, I'm not sure if I can behave myself."
"We're grown adults, Kook. Why do we need to behave? We're just going to be two single people, fresh from divorce that are just hanging out. Now, if we decide to hang out naked, that's something we will just have to deal with. Like adults would."
"Fuck! Send me your location. I'm leaving now!"
