The Protector (sokka x reader)

The Desert

after i heard those words i quickly looked around me and the ocean of sand was empty except for momo, aang, katara, sokka, and toph.

"how could you let them take appa?! why didn't you stop them?!" aang said enraged with toph

i stepped next to toph ready to defend her

"i couldn't! the library was sinking! you guys were still inside and-"
"you could've come to get us! i could've saved him!"
"i can hardly feel any vibrations out here. the sandbenders snuck up on me and there wasn't time for –
"you just didn't care! you never liked appa! you wanted him gone!"

"aang back up! you know she couldn't help him because she was to busy saving us from being devoured by the sand!"

katara came over and put her hand on aang's shoulder

"aang stop it. you know toph did all she could."

"who's going to save our lives now? we'll never make it out of here."

i turned my attention to sokka but then i saw aang walking away from us.

"that's all any of you guys care about, yourselves! you don't care whether appa is okay or not!"
"you know we do! we care a lot!" i said offended

"we're all concerned, but we can't afford to be fighting." katara said
"i'm going to find appa." aang said in a stern voice

he got on his glider and katara called out to him but it was no use.

"we'd better start walking. we're the only people who know about the solar eclipse. we have to get that information to ba sing se."

we started walking in the direction aang went. katara led and sokka, me, and toph followed, in that order.

"you think if we dig out that giant owl, he'll give us a ride?"
"even if we did, i sliced his eye so he wouldn't do us much good."
"y/n don't feed into his stupidness."

i rolled my eyes

we've been walking for a couple hours and i'm walking next to katara. we were all exhausted and dehydrated. our cheeks have turned pink and were all covered in sweat and sand.

behind us i heard bodies bumping into each other.

"can't you watch where you're..."

his eyes widen releasing toph bumped into him

"no."
"right. sorry"

katara turned around

"come on guys, we've got to stick together."

toph and sokka were literally stuck together and sokka tried pushing her off him.

"if i sweat anymore, i don't think sticking together will a problem."

toph was irritated and just pushed sokka off with one hand freeing them both.

"katara can i have some more water?" toph asked

"okay, but we've gotta try and conserve it."

katara bended four small blobs of water out of her canteen into my mouth, sokka's mouth, toph's mouth, and momo's mouth.

i could hear sokka swishing the water in his mouth before swallowing it.

"we're drinking your bending water?"

he started smacking his tongue which was really annoying

"you used this on the swamp guy. ugh!"
"it does taste swampy." toph said

i just made a disgusted face.

"i'm sorry it's all we have."
"not anymore look!"

i followed sokka who ran to a cactus. i got a sword out and sliced a piece open. sokka sliced another open with his machete. i chugged it down and so did sokka. momo came over and drank with us.
