Amortentia

It was the next day, and I was already late to my first period. I wouldn't have been late if it weren't for ugly pug face Pansy. I woke up as she was leaving for class, and she told me that she shut off my alarm clock because it was annoying her. She didn't bother with waking me up.

I was rushing down the hallway to potions class, with only a few minutes to spare. As I round the corner, I slam right into someone, knocking their books everywhere.

'Oh my I'm so sorry!' I say as I look up from frantically trying to gather their books for them. I'm met with beautiful brown eyes and a charming smile dressed in Slytherin robes. He bends down and helps pick up the rest.

'I'm Jack.' He extends his hand out as both a greeting and to help me stand up.

'Y/n.' I say as I take his hand and get up.

'Where are you heading?' He says as we begin walking down the corridor together.

'Potions.'

'Good luck with that. Snape's a bit of a tosser, as you know.'

'I've never really met him yet, I just moved here.'

'Oh you're that new fourth year, right? You got sorted last night?' I'm surprised he remembered me.

'Yeah. What year are you?'

'Fifth.'

'You said your name is Jack? Like Jack Bailey quidditch captain?'

'Yep that's me.'

'Oh that's really impressive.'

'Have you played?'

'No not really. We don't have it in America but last night Blaise and Draco were teaching me a few things.'

'Ah those two are trouble, let me warn you.'

'Yeah I can tell already.' He laughs.

'Here's potions.' He says as we approach the classroom.

'Sorry again for running into you.'

'Don't worry about it. I like making new friends.' He smiles and waves as he continues down the hallway.

I walk in to Snape's class late, and everyone's eyes are on me. My eyes scan the room until I find an empty seat. Next to Blaise. Yes.

'You're late.' I ignore him. 'Why?'

'I met someone.'

'Who?'

'Jack Bailey.'

'The gay?' The what?!

'Gay?'

'Yeah he came out last year. It was rather shocking.'

'Damn it he's cute.' I say frowning.

'Ha too bad Y/l/n. You'll have to have your eye on someone else.'

I don't bother answering him and instead direct my attention to the rest of the class. We were studying amortentia today. Snape wouldn't let us brew it due to how powerful it is. He made us sniff it though and say what we smelled. Rather awful of him to do that, because it's basically forcing us to tell the class who we had our eye on.

'Hmm I smell fresh oranges... vanilla?.... and pine trees.' Blaise said, puzzled. I squeal internally. I knew immediately that it was me. Oranges are my favorite fruit and I had pretty much an entire orchid of orange trees in America. Vanilla because of my perfume, and pine because I used to basically lived in the mountains and went hiking a lot.

Blaise likes me?

It was my turn to sniff it, and.. mmm.. i smelled 'limes.. cement.. cologne.. grass.' Oh shit. I feel my cheeks flush red even though nobody knows who it is. Tommy. He was my boyfriend back in America and the smells brought me right back. I thought I was over him?

'Ginger snaps.. lavender.. hair gel?..' Pansy didn't want the potion to be passed on, she was so intrigued by the smells.

I looked at the person next to her who was desperately trying to pull it away from her. Draco. He looked pissed at pug face and maybe a little.. uncomfortable?

'Let go you bitch' he whispered rather loudly and Snape gave him a look. He leaned down and sniffed, his face scrunched even more.

'Umm.. I smell citrus... rain... pine.. cinnamon.' He said.

'Very good class. Draco bring the cauldron back to the table.'

'What do you smell, sir?' Everyone looked at the source of the sound. A dark haired boy with glasses.

Snape slowly walked up to the boy's face and said 'None of your business Potter.'

Weird. Snape's just as mysterious as Draco.

Class was dismissed eventually and I was a bit confused about where my next class was. I wish I actually had friends so I could ask them. I rolled my eyes at the thought but caught up to Blaise who was walking slightly ahead.

'Blaise!' He looked back at me and smiled.

'Hey y/n' He was so smily oh my.

'Where's Herbology at?' I asked.

'Let me walk you there.' smooth.

'Sure.'

'Cool.' He seemed genuinely happy and I felt bad for apparently not being attracted to him. 'So your amortentia seemed pretty specific.. do you know if it was a person?' He asked, so hopeful.

'Umm yeah, it's my boyf - my ex boyfriend.' I said, rather embarrassed considering i'm not dating him anymore.

'Oh.. you're still attracted to him?' He sounded hurt even though he has no right to be.

'I guess.' It was silent now, a bit awkward.

'I'm not sure what mine meant. I have no attachment to any of those smells.' I cringed at his words, but played it off.

'Maybe it's Pansy or someone.'

'Pansy? No she smells of rain, lemons, and milk.'

'How do you know that?'

'I dated her last year...'

'Really? She told me she doesn't date. Just snogging.' I remember our conversation from last night.

'Yeah.. well we did. It was actually rather serious..' He trails off, looking at the ground.

'Oh. I see.'

We continue walking towards the greenhouses.

'Here. Herbology. Rather boring class if you ask me.' He let out a light laugh as he left to head to his own class.

I watched as he walked away, not knowing why I suddenly was okay with him liking me. Maybe he isn't as bad as I thought...
