2 years after joining the Whisperers...

After getting bored of the previous camp site, we were currently on the move once again in search of the right place to be set up. Since joining them, the group has grown tremendously. I couldn't believe that so many of these people chose to follow someone so blindly. Well, I was one to talk. I practically did the exact same thing. But after two years, I was ready to call it quits. If only the woman in charge didn't terrify the hell out of me. I was okay with giving up materialistic things. I mean in the world that we live in, having said things was pointless. But giving up our identity and what made us human was something that I wasn't okay with. I couldn't understand why we had to give up our humanity in order to survive. Wasn't not losing our humanity the whole reason for us to keep on living? Otherwise, why were we even here in the first place? I was lost in my own world which was something that I tended to do a lot more after my dad died.

"You," a whisper came, causing me to jump slightly.

I turned to see Alpha standing right behind to me.

"Yes, Alpha?"

"You show promise. You may come with the scavenging group today," she said.

"Uh...I...are you sure I'm ready?"

"You question my choice?"

"No. Alpha. No. I just...I question my ability."

"I don't. Clean your skin. We take off at sundown."

"Yes, Alpha."

She walked away and I sighed a ragged breath. I had to bite my tongue. The way that I was feeling would pass. It had to right? There wasn't anything that she had made me do that I couldn't. Going on this scavenging hunt could be just what I needed to be okay with the choice I made two years ago.

We left the campsite and walked for what seemed liked hours until we came across a town, abandoned like everything else in this world.

"Make sure we're alone," Alpha ordered.

The group then dispersed and we each went our separate ways to see what we could see. I came across an ice cream shop that I couldn't resist going into. I started to remember when I was in high school and worked a couple of summers at a shop just like this one. It was a few blocks from the beach which had us really busy for obvious reasons. I then remembered the one day my crush walked in looking so gorgeous that I'd lose my mind if they ever looked my way. And when they did, I ended up making a complete idiot of myself. It was then that I started to long for the simplicity of the life I had lived before this one. As I lost myself yet again, there was a crack that suddenly caught my attention. Pulling out my knife, I went to investigate. It had come from behind a counter so that's where I headed. Staying fully alert, I didn't dare let my guard down. Another crack and I was certain that something or someone was here with me. Ready to strike, I turned the corner to see what had made that noise. But I quickly put my knife away when I saw that it was two kids and a man who backed away at the sight of me. I took off my mask and held my hands up in the air, showing that I didn't want to harm them in any way.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you," I whispered.

"Who are you?" the man asked pretty loudly.

"Shh. I'm not alone. Look, I don't want to hurt you. But there's a group that is here that isn't a good one. Stay here and you'll be okay and I'm begging you to please stay here. Wait maybe ten minutes before you come out of there, okay?"
