2 years and 4 months ago...

I felt like I was gonna pass out. She'd really put her back into this lashing. All because I refused to satisfy some assholes' fantasy. I went over to my corner and grabbed my canteen of water to pour over both the fresh cuts and the old ones. It stung like hell and the shivers that went up and down my spine were unlike anything I'd ever experienced before.

"They'll get infected that way," someone behind me said.

I turned to see Lydia standing there.

"What are you doing over here?" I asked.

"I just...I wanted to make sure you were okay."

"I'm fine, Lydia. There's no need for you to worry."

"But that's the thing. I do. I get why my mom does these things but at the same time, I can't help but sympathize with everyone she does this to."

"She's done it to you a couple of times too."

"She has her reasons." I sighed.

"You really shouldn't be here, kid. Go back to where your mom can keep an eye on you. You wouldn't want her to think you're going against her or anything like that."

"Fine. Just. At least let me take you to someone who can stitch your back up."

"Thanks, Lydia but I'll be fine."

"They open up anymore and you'll get them infected."

"Okay. Whatever gets you back to your mother quicker."

She led me to an area not far from where I was. There was a woman who had just finished cleaning a skin.

"Claire?" Lydia called.

The woman turned and smiled at her.

"Hey, Lydia. What are you doing so far from camp?"

"It's really not that far. I'll be going back. It's just that I brought a patient for you. Maybe you can get her to allow herself to get those wounds closed. I'll see you guys later," Lydia said.

With one simple wave, she left us to it.

"I recognize you," Claire said.

"Funny cause I don't recognize you," I said, taking a seat on the log to my right.

"And why would you? You've kept to yourself ever since you came here."

"So what? You've been keeping tabs on me or something?"

"Sure. If that boosts your ego. Lift up your shirt, please."

I did as she asked but with a soft chuckle.

"There's no need for me to boost my ego."

"You sure about that?"

"Okay. Before I allow you to sew me up, where do you get off telling me I have an ego when you don't know shit about me?"

"I know you don't want to be here anymore." I froze.

How could she have possibly known something like that? I thought I had kept that to myself.

"You don't agree with how Alpha does things which is why you want to leave. You just don't know how," she continued.

"Will you shut up? Someone can hear you, you know."

"No one comes out this far. Please, lift your shirt up. Alpha got you real bad."

Again, I lifted my shirt up.
